The Sixth Sense vs Unbreakable

  1. Two "twisty" Shyamalan films starring Bruce Willis.

    Both very good.

    Gimme Sixth Sense though.

On very first viewing "Sixth Sense" is probably slightly better, but I have to go with Unbreakable, simply because it doesn't over-rely on "the twist". It's good all the way through, twist or not.

Sixth Sense, you watch it once for the twist, you watch it one more time to notice what you missed the first time, and then you're pretty much done with it.

Unbreakable, you can stumble in on it at just about any time during the movie, and it's compelling enough to keep it on.

  5. This is true. Unbreakable is more rewatchable.

However my first viewing of each...I preferred Sixth Sense

Unbreakable captures your attenton RIGHT AWAY. The doctor telling Elijah's mother that most of her newborn baby's bones are broken... then cue the AWESOME theme song and opening credits.

I think the scene I remember most in "Sixth Sense" is the opening scene with Donnie Wahlberg.

I thought he was on his way to become a star, just based on that scene. He's had a respectable career as a middling TV and character actor, but I expected him to be closer to what Casey Affleck turned out to be, and less like one of the lesser known Baldwin brothers.

Also didn't expect Haley Joel Osmont to turn into a fat hobbit.

That was a fucking twist I didn't see coming.

Yeah, he looks awful. I've seen him in a few things lately to, and somehow he seems even shorter then he was as a kid. Maybe because he got rounder, instead of taller. Maybe Panchy's Mandela Affect coming into play.

The kid was a fucking prodigy to. Looking at his IMDB page it looks like he's still making some bank, but mostly as a voice actor and in bit walk-on parts in comedy shows.

Unbreakable was much better IMO. I didn't even like 6th sense, even the twist was cheesy.
Still waiting for the sequel !

Both movies did manage to provide iconic quotes in history. "I see dead people", and "They called me Mr. Glass."

    Was he in AI?

  15. Incorrect.
'I see dead people' has far exceeded the impact into public consciousness than 'they call me Mr Glass'

In fact, you're the first person I've seen or heard mention thst 2nd quote...

I don’t know when or how this new reality -where The 6th Sense turned into some good awful unrewatchable film- started, but count me off the band wagon. I thought The 6th Sense was brilliant back when it came out and I think it’s brilliant today. I can still watch and enjoy that movie and don’t get why everyone else thinks it’s shit. Maybe it’s the Mandela effect because I remember most everyone hating Unbreakable back when it first came out and loving The 6th Sense.

  18. I thought both were okay but nothing spectacular.
In fact, I don´t particularly rate M. Knight Shayamallkinwhatever-his-name-is´ movies generally...

For a time, before rewatching it too often, Unbreakable was my favorite movie. Leaving the theater after that first viewing the film just stayed with me. It had such a strong atmosphere and presence and I thought it was a beautiful film. I still love it, but like I said, seen it too much.

I tend to agree. While I prefer Unbreakable, if somebody hasn't see either or knows nothing about them I would probably recommend they see Sixth Sense.

Unbreakable has aged a lot better IMO. Last time I watched Sixth Sense was about a year ago... it definitely wasn't as good as I felt it was in the early 00s.

What's funny is, Sixth Sense is praised for being so "original", but was it really?

Danny Torrance was the first creepy looking little kid who could see dead people.

I've seen the 6th sense twice and won't watch it again. Unbreakable didn't reach the same heights but is more rewatchable.

I'd watch Signs over both though

Signs is underrated. It has as good a case as Sixth Sense and Unbreakable as being M.Night's best movie.
