Menace II Society vs Boyz N The Hood

I know that M2S is the right answer...but I prefer Boyz in the Hood all day and every day.

Boyz N The Hood is dated as all Hell.

Menace is not.

 

Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood is probably the best parody film ever though. Bloody hilarious.

 

It's nowhere close. Blazing Saddles is the best parody comedy.

Don't Be a Menace is dated. It was my FAVORITE comedy when it first came out, but now I watch it, and it's about 75% stupid and unfunny.

Some scenes are still funny though.

I didn't care for any of the characters in Menace. Bunch of cunts.

 

Boyz is borderline unwatchable. Menace was a great movie !

They shoulda let Ice Cube carry Boyz all by himself. It woulda been a better movie.

Cuba living in the hood isn't believable.

 

True...plus Cuba is perhaps Hollywood's most annoying cunt, among prominent actors.

 

John Singleton probably looks back now and thinks, "Yeah... Cube shoulda been the lead."

 

Also the transition from young trey to old trey (Cuba) was ridiculous. Cuba looked and acted NOTHING like the young kid who portrayed Trey at the beginning of the film. That young trey was badass.

Truth be told...this was the role that put me right off Cuba. I love the film...but I found Cuba borderline intolerable. I no longer watch CBJ films....haven't even watched Jerry McGuire.

And I'd sooner go vacationing in Iraq than ever watch him in this shit...

Cuba was good in the OJ series. Obviously he did not look the part, but I think he got the sociopathic instincts of OJ down pretty well.

 

Funny thing about Cuba Gooding... his younger brother, Omar Gooding, played the gang banger role well in Baby Boy... another John Singleton movie.

 

Yeah, Omar was good in that. I liked "Baby Boy", even with that pretty boy Tyrese in it. Kind of a weird movie for that genre.

 

Hard to shake the image of omar Gooding in hanging with Mr cooper, to buy him as a goon

 

He was also in Smart Guy.

Cuba was the Right Guy to Play a REFORMED, RIGHT PATH Living Trey...

Contrary to Popular Belief, There's Meek, Straight Laced, Borderline NERDY Motherfuckers in EVERY Hood...

Boyz in the Hood was a Storybook, Cliched "Hood" Flick, Whereas Menace was CONSIDERABLY More Authentic...

Larenz Tate's Portrayal of O-Dogg is 1 of the More UNDERRATED Cinematic Performances Ever...Tate is Soooooooooooo NOT That Dude, Yet Played him MARVELOUSLY...And he Played O-Dogg Matter of Factly, UNLIKE the Way Tupac Would've...

Larenz Tate is in NO Way, Shape or Form "O-Dogg", Whereas there was ALWAYS Traces of "Bishop" in 'Pac...

Larenz Tate was Acting, MARVELOUSLY, REED Might Add....'Pac Not Only Fancied HIMSELF as "Bishop", but Pretty Much BEHAVED as Such for the Rest of his Living Years, Post-"Juice"...

I side with REED in this one.

Bishop was simply an extension of Pac's personality. And he played basically the same damn type of character in Above The Rim.

Larenz Tate is just as well known for being a hopeless romantic and poet in Love Jones (a great movie, btw) as he was a psychopath in Menace.

 

Irrelevant though. In fact, if anything, the fact that Tupac was more like "Bishop" than Tate was like "ODogg" lends credence to the belief that Tupac's portrayal was better.

Even if you hate Tupac for being a wannabe thug for the rest of his days...you have got to admit that his portrayal of Bishop was frighteningly superb.

 

O'Dogg didn't have anywhere near the depth of character that Bishop had.
