Crazy how 2007 produced two TIMELESS classics in There Will Be Blood and No Country. In MOST YEARS, TWBB easily wins best picture. Will always be one of my all time favorite movies... a cinematic masterpiece.
It's easy to think of Daniel Plainview as a villain, but it's not accurate. He's an anti-hero. The movie is a depiction of greed turning a flawed, but decent man into a monster.
I think both are brilliant, and I don't think its wrong that No Country won Best Picture. But technically, yeah, TWBW is overall a better movie. DDL's performance was so off the charts good that people forget that Paul Dano also turned in a terrific performance.
As a movie buff, you should already know why TWBB didn't win. The Academy blatantly robbed the Coen bros in 96 when Fargo didn't win. No Country winning was their way of saying sorry. Both are masterful movies in their own way, but "like I said before", I've always felt TWBW is the better of the two. I'd say No County and TWBW are the two best movies of the 00s... I say that with confidence.
