Before Black Movies were Officially Revived, Spike Lee was Doing Black Films...

    Fences.

    Panchyprsss Clogg's LORD PROTECTOR

Ryan Coogler is replacing Lee very fast. He can do sociopolitical comment (Fruitville Station) without hitting you on the head with the message like Lee does. He also proved he can do a commercial film without sacrificing artistic integrity (Creed) and on February will deliver the biggest blockbuster ever by a black filmmaker.

Fences was excellent! A superb job by Denzel - both as an actor AND director!

It was far more deserving of Best Picture than that fag-a-thon mediocre Moonlight.

Movie buffs would laugh in your face at such a statemet.

Boyz is THE most dated of any hood movie. Honestly, if you remove Ice Cube... it's not even watchable. Cube carried that movie.

Whereas DTRT might be MORE relevant today than it was in 89.

  9. Only Spike Lee fans would laugh in my face. From a pure film perspective, Boyz is far better made.

I'm one who actually still really likes "Boyz In The Hood", and I don't think Cube "carried" the movie, but it's nowhere near the quality of "Do The Right Thing".

  11. Slice N Dice

Slice N Dice Big stiff idiot

I'm not even a massive Spike Lee fan but I'd go with Do The Right Thing as well. Great film.

  12. Well...perhaps I need to watch it again. If everyone is saying this then perhaps I missed something. I just remember some Italian shop owner or pizza owner, Spike's ratface working for this guy (and boning Rosie or something)..Radio Raheem getting garotted by the police and then a resulting riot. Perhaps that's a different film than the one you guys are talking about..

Based on Sly's recent movie statements, I think I'll go a couple more years before I watch Chariots of Fire. This guy has shit movie taste.

Sly's ok. He just has a irrational dislike for Spike Lee, and it's clouding his judgement. I feel the same way about James Harden and that cunt from the "Can You Hear Me Now?" commercials.

Sly hates Spike out of jealousy....

  17. Based on that logic I shouldn't like John Singleton either.

  18. John Singleton is a better filmmaker than Spike Lee and I don't give a fuck what anyone thinks

  19. Rainmaker

    Rainmaker "Twinkle Toes" McJack

Do you guys remember the movie 'Action Jackson' with Carl Weathers?

  20. And hasn't seen enough movies for a start...

He thinks Crimson Tide's the best movie ever.

  22. I never said best ever. I've always maintained that Godfather is numero uno. At least be honest when attempting to attack.

In any event film enjoyment is largely subjective.

Also, and I've said this time and time again...all you do is side with the majority or with the power broker. You're like that sick little annoying bully's sidekick we all had at school. That's why you sit at the head table on the MMs forum for example...to be promoted there all a man need do is side with the majority. So you trying to criticize anyone, especially he that is sly, is laughable.

Im with Sly, i think Spike is not a great director at all. I think he is a great writer tho and knows how to use an actor's own personality in his scripts. He usually has an idea of who he is casting before he writes.
