Seems like you are objecting to the idea that for anyone, this would be an easy choice. But it is a purely subjective question. Even if I acknowledge Springsteen is a great performer with thousands of loyal fans, I personally have never liked the guy's music. On the other hand, I have basically always been a fan of Neil Young's (although he comes off as a major dick in interviews). So for me, it "is" an easy choice.

    Neil Young clearly

Springsteen made a good record before he was famous in 1973 and then Jon Landau molded him into a caricature of the type of working class person Landau had never actually met ...

  6. Both artists are grusomely overrated, especially Young who seems to be the ove and pride of every music critic.

I stopped paying attention to critics. There is really no use for them. It's not like I am paying 14.99 for CDs anymore, and want to make sure I do waste my money. If I want to know if something is any good I can listen to it.

I'm not a big fan of either, personally, but Young is clearly better for me.

Young sounds like Kermit the Frog singing Rainbow connection

Young did "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere", "After The Gold Rush" and "Tonight's The Night" ... he wins

Young mocked David Geffen's whining that he wasn't producing "rock" music by doing an intentionally awful album of 50s style rockabilly called "Everybody's Rockin'" ... he wins

Young was signed to Geffen records and issued some rather experimental records... they sold okay but were not popular in the mainstream... Geffen demanded Young make popular music, rock music so Young responded on purpose with an album that he knew wouldn't do well made up of old fashioned rock in the era of new wave ... geffen then sued him

That is pretty funny. When did that happen?

I'd rather listen to Neil Young take a shit than any song Springstein has put out.
