I do not want to debate it again, but i would point out that hypothetically, a fighter loading his gloves will have the effect of creating openings. The most obvious example is trinidad/reid when tito beat reid's crab shell defense into submission with his overweight fists.
Yeah I know that's Double's "thing" so didn't want to get that whole debate going again, but yeah it still wouldn't have mattered anyway.
No there isn't and it's been pointed out to you 50000 times the last 15 years ... why do you think dudes always joke about it on here and bust your chops? We've all got the same information you do
Biggest thing you point to is hopkins' teams post-fight statement, which downplays trinidad's infraction and basically exonerates him of any wrong-doing. This is in stark contrast to their initial statement and maximizes the credit hopkins is due for his victory.
Whether you think he was loading or not, it should be clear that loading would create openings and change the course of the fight profoindly. It is not a simple matter of when he lands it would have been harder.
Let us please drop this ... every trainer that ever watched Trinidad get his hands wrapped could come in here and tell Double he's mistaken and the guy would not change his mind
Funny because most of the people I knew picked Roy to beat Tito even at his best, me included. Tito may have been overrated in his prime but he's become underrated now. He's easily a top 15 welterweight and at his best an elite junior middleweight. He was good as a middleweight, but not elite there.
Yep. Honestly, I don't even consider the Tito fight a "great" win let alone one of the greatest. Nothing more than a good win. Hopkins - a highly skilled, tough as nails, 6'1 atg middleweight - beat up a limited, plodding, left hook on legs two weight divisions smaller. Exactly as he should have done. Hopkins being a 3 to 1 underdog only proves how insanely, insanely overrated Tito was, and how underrated Hopkins was.
Spinks-Holmes I deserves some consideration too. Probably fall a bit short because Holmes was a bit past it (he still was a very competent fighter though), but still a huge, huge win for Spinks, especially considering it spoiled Holmes attempt at beating Marciano record.
