Marvel scored again. Thor Ragnarok debuted at the top of the box office with a better than predicted $121 million. Marvel was hoping for a $100+ million debut and industry experts on Friday, looking at the great reviews, projected a $115 million opening just $2 million shy of 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' $117 million numbers. On the international front the film, which was released on many markets last week, opened to most of the remaining countries and grossed a whooping $151.4 million this weekend for a 10 day global cume of $427 million. China delivered its best numbers with a $55 million which is almost a record for a November release in that country. The third Thor film has a good chance of surpassing $900 million globally and maybe even $1 billion if it performs as expected in the following weeks (DC's Justice League will challenge the Marvel film in less than two weeks).

In a very distant second spot A Bad Moms Christmas debuted with $17 million. The comedy sequel opening numbers are lower than its predecesor's $23 million and it will have a rough time to get anywhere near the $113 million of the first film.

Last week's champ Jigsaw fell to the third spot with $6.7 million. That is a 59.7% drop from its debut last week.

"Tyler Perry's Boo 2! A Madea Halloween" continues underperforming in the fourth spot with $4.6 million.

Geostorm is still the very disaster at the box office as in the screen. The $120 million budget bomb took $3 million for a three weeks total of $28 million.
Crawling to the 10th spot is the Faith-based film Let There Be Light which added more screens this week, but not enough to compete with the big Hollywood productions (only 642 screens). However it AGAIN had bigger per screen averages than most of the top ten films except for the two new releases at the top 2 spots. The reason this film doesn't get 2K screens is due to contractual obligations of movie theater owners to the big studios who demand more screens for their films. Which explains why a flop like 'Geostorms' maintains 2666 screens while this indie Christian film can't even get 700 screens.

After Thor: Ragnarok doing so great I kind of feel worried about Black Panther's opening box office: sure it is going to do great, but it will surely pale in comparison to these numbers from 'Ragnarok'. Critics will immediately will start calling its debut numbers 'disappointing'.

  3. Probably doing re-shoots as we speak to make T'Challa come off as some African Peter Quill/Starlord.

I don't get the hype and box office performance of this move. Thor 2 was shitty.

  18. I´m pretty sure, Hut would´ve been perfect as a teenage roadie for the Red Wedge Tour in 1986...

  19. And you need to get off this thread and stick to "Trainspotting" ya unwashed non-conformist Glaswegian cunt.

  20. Trainspotting is superb.
An absolutely superb and 100% ccurate advertisement of modern-day Scotland and the Scottish which, of which I´m still proud that the British did a fucking Juilo Cesar Chavez x Edwin Rosario job on in 1746:

    (2:46 = that´s Hut)

It´s where the Scots belong and they´ve been looking up ever since....fuckin BRUTAL documenary of how the British decimated the Jocks!!

You should worry. Will the alt right go see this movie? What about all the racists, white supremists and klan members. You have to think -that since black panther doesn’t have the same free flowing blonde hair Thor once had, not to mention T’Challa’s much tanner complexion- that the Black Panther may not do as well as Thor.

  25. Funny enough...I think the fact that it's a virtually all black cast supporting a black hero, all the racists would flock to it out of fascination. I think it's going to do well.

Particularly when the villain, who is negro too, gets beaten and humiliated by a masked hero. Lots of cheers in rural Louisiana tent movie houses!

THOR: RAGNAROK took the top spot at the box office again with $56.6 million for a global total of $650 million, besting the totals of the two previous Thor films. By next weekend it would have surpassed the global numbers of 'Doctor Strange'.

yes, i also thought this movie got a bit too silly. ok, kudos for doing something new, & it does do interesting things - overall i'll rate it as 'fresh' rather than 'rotten'. having established characters played by the same actors suddenly behave in radically different ways & playing it for laughs was really a brave step. - ultimately, though, it just got too silly for me, to the point where there was no heart left in it. unlike, e.g., GOTG 2, which always retains a heart, with real characters in it.

still, good to see MCU keep trying to do something new, & they've done a few different kinds of comic turn now - Ant-Man, GOTG, Deadpool (Marvel, at least). this movie still pisses on Wonder Woman

  29. Yeah this film was too silly at times...like really silly. Had it been given a darker tone, with the same subject matter, it may have been the best MCU film or at least a contender for it.
