Greatest Comebacks in boxing History

Discussion in 'General Boxing Discussion' started by Destruction and Mayhem, Nov 9, 2017.

  1. Instead of me creating two threads...I'll combine them into one.

    1. Greatest in fight comebacks (Guy is trailing badly on points but pulls it out with a late KO/TKO)
    2. Greatest comebacks from guys who were retired or had taken some time off and came back to score a significant victory/accomplishment or string of victories

Leonard falls into both categories: Leonard-Hearns 1 and the comeback fight against Marvin Hagler.

Julio Cesar Chavez against Taylor 1 was a legendary comeback TKO.

George Foreman's comeback (to the ring) proved legendary as over the course of a few years he managed to win back the undisputed Heavyweight crown...plus that fight itself featured a great come from behind KO.

List the ones that you think were the best

  2. Dog Jones

Bonecrusher Smith losing 90-81 to Frank Bruno and scores a KO in the 10th and final round

Holmes retired after the KO to Tyson and comes back to win a lopsided UD over a prime Mercer, then challenges for the undisputed title against Holyfield

Nearly beat prime McCall too for the WBC title

Surprised no one mentioned Chico Vs Castillo. It was very back forth the whole fight, but an awesome comeback at the end, as it seemed like he was about to get stopped himself.

  7. Yup. Great example. At that point in time Chico was about to lose on points and he came back with a dramatic CINEMATIC finish.

Points? He was in danger of being stopped himself IIRC. Definitely a dramatic comeback but different from some of the others in the sense it was not one-sided throughout.

I don't care about levels, the Danny Williams-Mark Potter fight is THE greatest comeback of all time. Proper Rocky shit.

Not sure about Louis-Conn as Conn only lead on two cards, by two points or so. It was a close, hard-fought battle

Yeah, I guess I was thinking more from a historical perspective since it’s a classic fight and Conn was close to pulling off the upset.

  14. Dog Jones

Bowe scored two comeback victories over Golota

  15. So did Santana against Terry Norris....

If people haven't seen this, then they should.

Williams was done, one arm badly damaged and he was in a bad way.

But managed to stop the guy with some great shots.

    Nigel Benn - Gerald McLellan.

Benn was basically gone in the first round and a few times later in the fight, but managaed to hang in there and get the win.

    Yep.

Arm hanging out of its socket, knocked down, lost every round. The guy was the very definition of 'done'. Still the craziest turnaround I've seen in a boxing ring.
