Such a joke that crawford is forced into position of calling out Horne. Lol. Kudos to Smith for pointing out nobody gives a shit about that fight. Smith should have gone a step further and said we all know Horne won by corrupt TR fix job designed to manufacture TR stable opponent.

Loma's ability to make solid and even great fighters quit is really intriguing, as mentioned.

Rigo has always been a passive guy but his confidence must have been high beforehand. Walters too had never before seemed like a mentally weak guy.

Is it a coincidence, or is it just abnormally frustrating or disheartening to get pummeled by Loma?

Not a coincidence, 4 in a row can't be ignored. Two of them undefeated champions too, I mean wtf, it's unheard of.

There must be something extremely disheartening about the way he relentlessly picks people apart.

Hey REED, yep he really has made 4 guys in a row quit, and as I said above - two of them were actually undefeated champions. I mean really, how bizarre of is that? Undefeated champs just wilingly giving up their 0 rather than going any more rounds with Loma.

It's weird, as he's not giving people vicious beatings like Pacquiao, he's not as violent or powerful. He just picks people apart.

So did Floyd pick people apart, but he wasn't making people quit left and right, so what's the difference? To me it's that Floyd fights at a leisurely pace. Yeah you're getting schooled, but it's not the worst thing in the world. He makes you look silly, but gives you plenty of time to breath.

Lomachenko picks people apart in a more suffocating and intense way. He's constantly on you, picking his shots, forcing you to make mistakes, and sort of pressure potshotting you.

More so than the physical pain, it obviously completely demoralises people, and he's so damn fast and sharp with solid defense, that they just give up hope and quit.

    He really is unique.

yeah, but honestly, while the 3 others quit job were at least comprehensible, Rigo no mas was absolutely gutless. He wasn't taking much punishment, nor was he completely outclassed as the 3 others were

I think the question of Rigondeaux real worth as a fighter need to be asked. Guys looked vulnerable and struggled against numerous b and c level guy, and his only marquee win was against donaire (who was a bit overrated himself). Don't get me wrong, the rigo we saw last night probably was not the prime rigo, but the way he fought was kind of ''eye opening''

True, but Rigo himself was never outclassed like that before at any level. With all his skill and experience I think he knew there wasn't anything he could do to change it.

Maybe it's kind of like a chess match where your opponent has mate in 3. You have moves to make but no matter which one you pick it's a loss, so you just resign. The advantage in boxing is that you can still make excuses afterward and hope enough people buy them.

I do feel a bit duped by Rigondeaux. It's true he has struggled against not very good fighters, all the while being proclaimed P4P #1 by many hardcore fans.

He won me over with the Donaire fight, where he looked exceptional. But like you said, Donaire turned out to be pretty overrated, and in fact I remember telling Hut and cdogg he was overrated ages ago, when they were singing his praises something fierce, and saying he was better than Pacquiao.

Donaire looked legit, but as it turns out was basically an awesome counter left hook on legs. When did he really do other than cold cock some little flyweights like Vic and Montiel?

In retrospect, Donaire was probably a perfect style matchup for Gondo. Nonito's complete inability to lead made him look lost, and made Gondo look awesome. The difference was Lomachenko is a sort of highly technical pressure fighter of sorts, so it Gondo that looked lost in the face of Lomachenko's amazing, precision pressure.

He absolutely is. I'm not going to bother getting into mythical standings. If he continues to dominate or gets knocked out by a bum it doesn't change the fact he's a unique fighter.

The overwhelming majority of boxers with his skillset are counter-punchers. Even if they have the ability to lead they tend to prefer an opponent bringing the action to them so they can exploit openings and mistakes. Conversely Lomachenko is constantly on the offensive. He's a pressure fighter but not in the typical mould.

Agreed. He's an incredible fighter and has been my favourite for a good while, it's seriously rare to see such an offensive fighter who is as defensively sound as Loma.

Agree that overall Loma is a better fighter. But the size difference is bigger than you think. Crawford outgrew 135 and has clearly outgrown 140. He's a full fledged welterweight now. Easily walks around the 150-160 pound range.

I would favor Loma if they met at 135 in a mythical match up. But I'm not so sure Loma at 140 will be able to be the same fighter.

Rigo has all the talent in the world, and I maintain that had he turned pro earlier he would have been a lot more successful - we probably never even saw his physical prime in the pros.

HOWEVER, last night displayed that he's a fuckin dog, and I have serious questions on how he would have dealt with true adversity.

As for Loma making his last four opponents quit, I can't really fault Jason Sosa. He was HOPELESSLY in over-his-head and taking a beating. Marriaga too.

No passes given to Walters and Rigo though. Shameful, disgusting quit jobs on the part of both.

So, has an official reason been offered by Rigondeaux or his team about 'Why' he quit?

officially he couldnt land a big punch with his left hand and was on the verge of gettin beat down. in addition, he has been a part time fighter for the better part of 3 years going against a legendary opponent in his prime. was this difficult to predict?

Show me all the predictions you all made and I'll see it for myself.

Furthermore, collate all the "I knew that would happen" replies from this thread just before, during and right after Rigondeaux quit too and it'll really hammer the point home.

No matter what Rigo does now, he'll be remembered as a quitter. Such a shame. I at least expected him to go out fighting if he was getting beat.

Sosa and Marriaga didn't quit. Their corners stopped the fight.

Yep, indeed, but to be fair, a few others were going down the ´this´ll be boring´ route, but unfortunately, that´s what happens when two guys with such styles encounter each other: both guys were insane amateurs, both got two Olympic Golds, both have ´Technical Boxing 101´ down to a fine-art, neither show any favored strengths toward numbing punching power or relentless body-attacks or concrete chins: they´re good at everything.

This fight would never, as some fanboys would stupi...errr...excitedly proclaim would be another Leonard v Duran I.

I don't think it's coincidence Rigo quit in the same round he had a point deducted. He was possibly 6 rounds + the deduction behind so he knew we basically fucked injury or not. The only way to win was to open up and take big risks.

And God forbid he take chances!

Makes you appreciate a guy like Whitaker more. Pea was a master boxer, but most importantly... he was a FIGHTER.

Rigo is just a boxer. Underneath the skill, he's no fighter.

I think that is unfair. He has been hurt and dropped before and fought back. Also in an amateur career of over 200 fights he obviously had to deal with adversity.

Lomachenko is just a different level. He doesn't just beat guys he humiliates them in every aspect of the fight.

Someone made a very good point (Forget which poster it was)..in that the point deduction was the final straw for Rigo. I hadn't considered that. But the truth is he was already down (only round that could have gone to him was the 1st) and losing an additional point means that he would have needs a KO to win...and if it was even remotely true about his alleged damaged hand then asking for a KO would have been infeasible. Still, quitting is quitting. And it was disgraceful.

To channel Slice n Dice...HYPOTHETICALLY if Pacquiao were to meltdown to 135lb, at his age, and beat Lomachenko...where would you rank him all time?

Someone (forget which poster it was) brought up the possibility of Pacquiao fighting Lomachenko @ 135.
