What fighters were you huge fans of at one time but now are embarrassed to even tell people? 1. Kirkland. I loved watching the guy for his ferocity in the ring and KO power. Although at the higher levels we all found out what caliber he really was. 2. Chavez Jr. Only in the beginning! Lol. I just was hoping for a bigger version of his Dad. I found out within a few fights he would end up being a bigger version of his Mom.
I'm not ashamed to say it - Tua was my third favorite fighter behind Mike and Roy up until the Lewis fight. But after the pathetic effort I jumped off the bandwagon. Had he given it his all, and gotten KO'd, I would have remained a fan. But the fat fuck totally dialed it in, and lost my fandom in one night.
I wouldn't say I was even really a "fan", but I thought Ben Tackie was a guy with two raw talents (extremely heavy hands and a good chin) who was starting to get some seasoning (fighting and beating some solid 2nd tier guys) and had a good shot at knocking off Tszyu (I made a "what the hell, go for it" type of prediction and predicted he'd score the upset KO over Tszyu) ... Well, Tszyu boxed beautifully and won every round and Tackie became a journeyman
Herbie Hide In fact I am still a fan and wait for him to return if he just finds his head movement back
I loved Edisson Miranda. Remember the time he was on a collision course with Pascal and he was knocking solid journeyman cold while Pascal was struggling with them ? Who would have thought he most probably would have lost, and worst, didn't belong at this level
But I woluldnt say I'm ashamed since he alway''s gave his best shot. A guy I'd be ashamed to have ever been on his bandwagon would be someone like Rigondeaux, who has load of talents but very little heart
Nice thread. Unique. Wladimir Klitschko After he destroyed Jefferson, McCline and Mercer, I thought he was the best thing since sliced bread. I totally excused the purity kosss and put it down to immaturity. But when he was destroyed by sanders and then by Byrd’s cousin ( I always forget that fuckers name), I was ashamed to have been a fan. He did since dominate the division for a decade and so that took away some of my former embarrassment but he became such a negative boring fighter that it never fully recovered. He went out with a bang against Joshua though, so he made up for all his sins in his last fight
Definitely Golota. Was a huge fan even after the second Bowe fight. But time after time he just blew it. So talented really good boxer. Just mentally weak.
RJ, after the JC fight. He had a golden opportunity to redeem himself for the last few terrible years of his career, yet he was too cautious to jump on JC even though he was badly hurt
Tackie was just so damn slow. I still remember how brilliant everyone thought Tszyu was for shutting him out. But Garcia did the same thing but just got caught. We should not have been surprised.
Golota Was a Strange 1 Indeed... Motherfucker Had INSURMOUNTABLE Leads Against Bowe, Yet Blatantly Nutshotted Him and Got DQ'ed Anyways...Didn't Even Need to Go the Body Since he was TORTURING Bowe w/Head Shots... As an Ol' Commentator 1nce Said, "He Snatched DEFEAT from the Jaws of VICTORY"... REED
Yep. And he seemed to implode against Grant too - another fight he was winning handily. Guy just couldn't deal with adversity. He also famously bit some guy on the shoulder - and that was no doubt out of anxiety. By the way, if you recall, his biting incideny occurred before Tyson ever bit Holy, making Golota the original.
Haha, I forgot, but you know what, same for me. I was a big Tua fan. At his best he was really fun to watch, and had a left hook from hell. But just like you, the Lewis fight turned me off big style. Yeah it was a tough task for such a stumpy heavyweight, but he barely even tried.
