Frazier actually had a good jab when he utilized it. I think for once, Sly is right on Mosley. Shane had a flicking jab for the most part.
No lie... I remember an issue of KO or World Boxing in like 2001 or 2000 that had a "best of everything" special edition and the best jab was........ Shane Mosley
"The best since Ray Robinson" I remember thinking "man I must have a lot more to learn than I thought because I'm not seeing this"
Mosley won the jab battle in the first dlh fight. He had a decent one. Tua had no jab to speak of, but not sure we can consider him good
It wasn't a battle of jabs. De La Hoya hardly threw any jabs...Shane Mosley only threw flick jabs. Oscar was just trying to knock him out...stalking him without any regard for the incoming and just trying to get close and wing big left hooks upstairs and down. Shane was doing fancy pivots, and switching stance, and rolling his gloves and looking cute...but he wasn't jabbing down the place AT ALL, and Oscar wasn't jabbing up the place AT ALL and Shane merely out slugged Oscar with his faster hands. Look at the fight again.
Nah, shane jab was pretty effective in that fight. He didnt won the fight simply by outjabbing dlh, but it was a contributive factor
Manny Pacquiao's jab isn't particularly good. He mainly uses it as a range finder rather than a weapon of its own.
Would have been interesting to see Foreman call a Benn fight. "Where's that leffff JAAABB at? Ya gotta be able to use that lefff JAABBB!"
Benn actually is on record saying that, in his view, a jab is a waste of a punch: 'what is the point of throwing a jab when you can throw a left hook instead?' were the words I think he used. MTF
Mosley's jab was serviceable in setting up his offense but it wasn't a WEAPON, per say. It wasn't a punch Mosley was ever able to use to great effect. Fernando Vargas had a better jab than Mosley and he's not a guy that comes to mind when you think of a great jabber. Zab Judah is a guy that comes to mind for me. Despite the physical gifts and athletic qualities, he never showed a good jab. Not in terms of consistency at least. Keith Thurman, despite all his movement and flash has no jab. Pure leap amateur.
well, he beat a top 5 top 10 p4p guy. Not really elite, but that's why I said he was e-light. Pretty much like Benn
