I'll give Sometimes credit and say that Vargas is a legit opponent to face after over a year off. I expect Keith to pick Jesse apart though. After the Ali upset, Vargas can't be totally counted out, but Thurman isn't as fragile as Ali. Thurman by UD or late stoppage.
Vargas is one of those guys who is pretty good but will never be proper world class. Agreed it's a decent fight for Thurman to take after a layoff though.
That'd be hilarious if it happened. I mean, hey, it would be a big upset... but we've seen bigger upsets.
We might have different definitions of world class. I would consider Jesse Vargas a world class fighter... but not a top level guy.
Vargas might be a bad style match up for Thurman with his height and reach. And he may just pack enough in his right hand to surprise Thurman. That said, Keith took this one for a reason. I think he wins a UD. No knockout here
The sneaky right hand is definitely something Thurman will have to look out for. It could hurt Keith if Vargas times it right. The Ali upset be a bit deceiving though because 1. Ali has a terrible chin 2. Ali has a very bad defense. Thurman ain't Ray Robinson in the chin department, but he takes a better shot than Ali. And Thurman ain't Floyd on defense, but he's also more defensively responsible than Ali. I just think Thurman is too quick for Vargas.
So, turns out Thurman is facing the ever dangerous TBD in his comeback fight instead of Vargas. I figured as much. Don't worry, I'm sure he'll fight Vargas AFTER his TBD opponent.... then Porter rematch.... THEN a Garcia rematch... then maybe a Louie Collazo rematch... THEN a Soto Karass rematch.... Keith hopes by then Spence can no longer make 147... and the day EJ moves to 154... Thurman will claim he was ready and Spence ducked him.
