Bert Sugar was the only old timer who was so nostlagic that it was sickening. If he was alive today he'd probably claim that Willy Pepp could shutout Floyd without having to throw more than 10 punches a round, and that Henry Armstrong could move up to 168 and beat Andre Ward.
What I don't get is that your argument is based on the fact that boxing in the 30's was more popular to claim their superioty, while it was even more popular in the 20's, yet you acknowledge Dempsey (and the rest of these guys) were basura. I think it's a pretty good proof that the correlation between quality and quantity is not that strong. I thnnk that the way those that shows potential are nutured is much more important To make an anology, there is a ton more of novelist now than they were in Dostoyevski era, but I don't think that the best writers of our era blows him away.
What made it even more bizarre was that he wasn't even actually old... he was 5 years older than ALI Bert Sugar was the worst
