For me as to me Qawi going back to Rahway prison, where he was incarcerated and learned how to box, to beat James Scott, who punked him during his time over there.

If you saw someting like this in a movie, you would laugh at how nonsensical it would seem

    Ali knocking out Foreman.

If that was a movie you would have said it was far fetched.

Foreman was in his prime and just going through people like a hot knife through butter. Ali was past prime, twice beaten, dropped and jaw broken....beaten by two guys that foreman wiped out in two rounds a piece. Ali no longer danced, jab had regressed, no longer elusive , 32 years old (which was old on those days) and most importantly wasn’t known as a puncher.

    He knocked foreman out.

That some rocky vs clubber Lang shit

Don't agree. It,s only an upset at the end of the day. By this standard, Douglas Tyson was even more incredible

An Irish guy to walk away with US$70M on his professional boxing debut.

Doesn't get more incredible than that.

Douglas Tyson was a bigger shock as it happened, but the general consensus in hindsight is that Tyson wasn't properly prepared and that contributed to the upset.

    Ali vs. Foreman though....WOW!

"And Ali with a sneaky right hand...another sneaky right hand...and now he works over the shoulder of Foreman and delivers combinations!!"

The sight of Foreman slowing spinning towards to canvas (hadn't been knocked out before or since) is one of the greatest spectacles ever in the history of the ring!!!!!

I need to go to vegas, find Mayweather at his gym, have a buddy record it...and insult his mother or something and call him out as a coward.

Dude might pay me 10 mill to get in the ring with him!!!

(if only things were that simple...)

w/CONTEXT and PERSPECTIVE, Ali-Foreman is as "WTF" as it Gets...

Ali's Dressing Room was like a MORGUE Pre-Fight...His Entourage Thought he was Being Led to SLAUGHTER, Just as the Media and Fans Did...

It Can't Be Overstated, Just How IMPROBABLE Beating Foreman Was...Literally, it Was Something Only Ali Himself Could Imagine...

Of Course, AFTER The Fact, it's Easier to Dissect and NOT as Impressive a Feat...

    Context...Perspective...

Nobody is saying its not an impressive feat (still beating the same tired drum i see. Who doesnt know about the context of ali foreman, its probably the most documented fight in history). Only that at the end of the day, its still only an upset (and its far from the biggest one in boxing history), and its not what i was looking for in this topic.

Btw the odds for that fight was 3-1 to 7-1. So youre the one whos distorting history here my friend (or lacking context and perspective as you say)

To clarify, i probably should have asked for the most absurd moment in boxing history.

The fight where the mom of the guy who was getting beat up, entered the ring and hit the other boxer with his purse, has to qualify.

Douglas/Tyson is the biggest upset in all of sports in the 20th century other than maybe the US beating the USSR in 1980

Coggi getting koed, being held up by his cornerman while the fight continues, and winning the fight, is also a good contender

    Spoken like an American.

Greece winning the Euro in 2004 is probably bigger to think of just 1.

Ali-Foreman for me for the simple fact that despite it being BEFORE my time, I still get that feeling of Ali almost walking a tight rope as he's laying on the ropes and SURVIVING in the face of a KO that would occur at any moment now.

Then that final right hand that sent Foreman down in a spin with Ali keeping his fist cocked and watching him go down is easily one of the most iconic moments in not just boxing but sports, period.

Everything about that fight is iconic. The circumstances of Ali being the underdog and people's champion, Foreman being the terror that he was, the fight held in Zaire, the title of the "Rumble In The Jungle,". Etc.

Those elements that made the fight what it was can never be recaptured even if tried.

yeah I had thought about it. But for me, the Coggi and Qawi examples are better examples, cause numerous people where involved in these events, wherever fan man was the act of one deranged individual

You know nothing about hockey ... it's the ultimate David and Goliath... they had no business being on the ice with that team

yeah miracle on ice is probably the biggest sport upset ever. The soviets at the time were as good as the canadian pro team, and they got beat by a couple of college students.

The greece team was at least made of pro players

This isn't the modern US which is a genuine hockey power... this is the us when there were like 10 Americans in the whole NHL and these were college kids playing a team that was the best in the world, seasoned professionals, a team that had utterly demolished them only weeks earlier

It's a moot point as it appears Slice has us both soundly beaten if the odds are the judge
