Khan signs with Hearn...

which tells me that Brook-Khan isn't far away. But does anyone care anymore? Loooooooong overdue.

 

It's never been a matchup I've cared a great deal about, because I've never seen it as particularly competitive.

It's been apparent for a number of years now that Brook would smash Khan.

 

This fight isn't interesting anymore. It's about as appealing a matchup as Mosley-Mayorga 2 was.

 

Brook with two broken eye sockets and two broken hands still KOs Khan.

Seriously, Amir needs to retire.

 

He's just looking for one more cash out.

 

I'd like to see Khan in with TOMMY Hearns

 

Obvious cash out for both in the offing. Khan is old and way past his 'best', whatever that was, while Brook finally stepped up his comp and was stopped twice. Nowhere much for either to go at this point except a massive payday to face each other.

I continue to be amazed how virtually every boxing fan knows a cash-out fight when they see it, but are still willing to fork out their own money towards these meaningless bouts.

 

This fight will sell 40,000 tickets. Very few of those in attendance will be actual 'boxing fans', in the same sense that most of us are.

Hearn has completely remodelled his marketing strategy based on the success his old man has had in completely 'reinvigorating' darts (don't laugh). He's realised that you do not make much money from the hardcore fans. They are hard to please, disconcerting in how they spend their cash, and, moreover, there are too few of them. Instead the money is to be made by attracting casual punters with disposable cash to 'events', not sporting contests. Sell it as a 'must attend' piss-up, get as many mugs as possible to fill the hall and beam the pictures to the world so that more mugs see what is happening and feel like they are missing out on the new trend unless next time, they get themselves involved. Use Sky Sports as a promotional vehicle, with constant 'updates', promos and angst-filled confrontations showing how important it is to be in the hall when the violence kicks off.

It works. With boxing it is easier than in most sports because boxing has always attracted the casual neanderthal who wants to come along to watch some good ol' fashioned violence.

The Brook-Khan thing is a quick money grab at this point for both guys. But the luster and SIGNIFICANCE is gone.

I figure the winner of this one, sets himself up for another title shot. But Brook can't make 147 and Khan probably won't go to 154, so a catch weight is likely.

If it happens, Brook KO's him clean. Khan is totally done and is clearly just looking for quick money, whereas Brook still wants to beat the living shit out of Khan.

Pointless fight now.

Loads of mugs will be lapping this up. Loads of them. I can sit here all day and lament at the state of the whole thing but Hearn doesn't give a fuck about me. He just cares about mugs, and the recruitment to his operation of more of them.

I dunno about you guys, but I often find it mind boggling that a guy as daft and as fragile as Khan ever made to world level.

 

It doesn't really matter. Most of those in attendance don't actually care who is fighting. All that matters is being there.

He has elite level button-mashing speed, to be fair. He's very affletic, and has plenty of heart, too. And his body punching is good, when he commits to it.

That's basically it. He's managed to make quite a lot out of that.

After the Presscot K Ohe was matched well against smaller guys who couldn't punch until he ran into Peterson who beat him. He did beat Maidana, BARELY. But he probably would have lost a second fight to him.

 

Khan was hated in England only partially because he's a fucking Muslim. The British public got too used to all-action Hatton who built his way up. Khan got PPV billing after 10 fights for fighting utter cans, three of whom put him on his ass.

 

Despite what you may think of him, Khan does make for fun, wacky fights.

Khan fights are much more fun usually than Hatton fights. Agreed that the Khan hate in the UK (and US) comme in equal proportion from him being shoved down their throats, and him being a muslim.

 

Agreed there, Hatton was a fucking eyesore to watch.
