1. since Godfather 2 was both sequel and prequel I would say this wins hands down.

So....aside from Godfather 2, what are the best prequels ?

  2. Very few.
    X-Men: First Class
Indiana Jones & The Temple Of Doom
    Casino Royale
(is technically a prequel as it deals with Bond´s early days as a 00 agent)

  3. Good choices.

Yes there are very few that are good.

    Prometheus?

  4. Aaaarrrrgghhhh!!!!
    Prometheus.
Hate it, even though it was well-made

  5. Ive posted so many commnts about Prometheus and why I dont like it on the main thread for it.

    Alien Covenant was even worse.

Star Trek (2009) JJ Abrams best film to date
Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly (1966) this was the third film of the Sergio Leone spaguetti westerns starring Clint Eastwood, but very few people realize that this was in fact a prequel to the events of the first two.

  7. Both remakes / reboots though...

    Prequels
Star Trek is about the young Captain Kirk and the rest of the gang when they first enlist in Starfleet Academy, their first voyage in the brand new Eterprise and the events that lead to Kirk becoming the ship's Captain.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes and its two sequels is about how the whole thing started. they are prequels just like the SW episodes 1-3 are prequels.

  10. Yeah it's not a prequel at all except 'chronologically'...

  11. But it's not a prequel to any other movie: Star Trek is the starting point.

    Neither is Apes.

Both of these movies are new franchises so cannot be part of another series.

Wow. You thought very hard to come up with those arguments, didn't you?

  13. Not as hard as you did trying to, and failing to present a case for three movies being prequels when in fact, none of them are.

    At all.

LOL so based on your own arguments neither one of the three films you mentioned are prequels, just...reboots/remakes?[IMG]

  16. X-Men: part of am ongoing francise
Indiana Jones: 2nd in a franchise
Casino Royale: part of an ongoing franchise

    None of them were remakes.

    So....no.

  17. The recent Apes trilogy are definitely prequels.

  18. Prequels to what?

They're (unofficially) remakes so they aren't prequels to anything.

  19. Furthermore, no mention to my knowledge has been made of the new movies Dawn of, Rise of or War for The Planet Of The Apes being set before the events of the original movies or even remotely related to that of Taylor landing on Earth in the future....which makes them even less of a prequel.

  20. They are understood to describe the events which lead to the state of there being a planet of apes. Therefore they are prequels to charlton hestons film.

  21. Yes....IF the 4th or 5th installment at least resembles the original Planet Of The Apes.
Taylor, Cornelius, Zira, Dr Zaius and the Statue of Liberty in the sand.

Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom doesn't have ANYTHING in the plot that makes you think is a prequel. In fact some critics pointed out that it reprised some scenes from Raiders making it look more like a sequel. The only thing that makes you realize is a prequel is just the year displayed in the opening credits. That's all.

Casino Royale was a freaking reboot even with a new 'Blond Bond'. Your logic here applies to Star Trek if you accept Casino Royale's 'part of an ongoing franchise' but ignores it was 'a starting point' and 'not a prequel to any previous movie'...

Star Trek was NOT a remake of any previous film in case you never cared to watch it. Casino Royale? yup, it was! in fact it was the SECOND remake of the same title!

  23. Oh come off it - the same argument used for The Good The Bad & The Ugly being a prequel is the same as Indiana Jones & The Temple Of Doom: chronological

Star Trek being a prequel is a ridiculous argument as I've already said: it doesn't predate anything?

Casino Royale. I knew you'd bring up the 1960s spoof which has almost nothing to do with James Bond and I already pointed out a caveat for it being included.

Basically you're using 'reboot', 'remake' to muddy the waters to try and prove a point!

Like I said there are very few strict prequels that ate any good at all.

    The Star Wars prequels.

No wait, was the thread title, best prequels or worst prequels?

  25. Best Prequels.

I think one of them is okay: Revenge Of The Sith

As for the new Apes movies being prequels, as far as I know the order is going something (albeit loosely) like this:
    Planet Of The Apes >
Beneath The Planet Of The Apes >
Escape From The Planet Of The Apes >
Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes >
Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes / Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes
Battle For The Planet Of The Apes > War For The Planet Of The Apes

So, the next installment should be a vague remake of the original Planet Of The Apes but set way way ahead in the future (i.e. no Caesar involved)

The trilogy is completed. There will be no 'next installment'.

Because nothing's been confirmed on that yet.
