My position on this matchup is unchanged. Prime Pav would've beaten the shit outta the lil spurt fighter.

GGG is a lot better than Pavlik and he couldn't splatter him... This is a pick 'me to me

Pavlik fights tall better than GGG, so I'd pick him assuming he wasn't on another bender

Ggg is not a lot better than pavlik. The ghost would have also splatter the flotsam ggg fed on

The current, old Golovin is NOT better than prime Pavlik.

  9. BS. Pavlik is taller than GGG but he doesn’t fight tall better.

  10. Yes he is

Im not even sure prime ggg is better. Guy struggled mightily against jacob, and jacob is not as good as taylor

If we accept that ggg wasn't in his prime against Canelo, then I don't think Jacobs fight is a good case since it was his last one before Canelo.

Personally I do believe ggg was better at 30 than at 35, but we can't know for sure. What I am positive about is that Canelo now is better than he was against Floyd, which is the version that gets all the hate.

I do think Pavlik would have beaten Canelo more clearly, whereas ggg would have defeated Martinez. Styles

I don't really believe this theory that GGG prime magically finished as soon as he started facing good competition

The chance of a fighter being at his best at 35 are pretty slim. It is possible, but it is rare.

With the drugs and training they do now, it's not nearly as rare as it used to. Especially if you were not involved in a lot of hard fights

Aye, but GGG had something like 350 ammy fights before he turned pro, and what, 38 pro fights?

There is no realistic prospect of him being in his prime right now. It's incredibly unlikely.

  17. Pavlik would be MUCH bigger than Canelo. Difficult to imagine Canelo winning based on height difference alone. Pavlik is slower and more one dimensional than Canelo however and that may play a factor. Still...I’ll go with youngstown methinks

Yeah, but most of these 38 fights came against garbage man, and he won them easily, so it didn't took a toll on him. And he doesn't look different from before. If he's past it, it's only slightly

I think Golov was a good deal better circa 2012-2014 than he is today.

Cmonnn... the guy is a pressure fighter. Name ONE pressure fighter in history who was prime in their mid 30s.

    It's a young man's style.

Totally agree with your last sentence though. Golov would have hunted down Martinez.

GGG must have had the shortest prime ever. Guy was pre-prime when he faced Ouma, and a few years later, he's past it, even thought he never was in a hard fight.

And we also have to forget the time he looked like shit during this span, against Geale and Monroe.

The guy fooled a lot of person by opening a few cans impressively (me included) but we can safely say he is not as good as we once thougt, and in no way is he far superior to Pavlik

disagree. Movers usually age a lot worse than pressure fighters.

Golov nearly killed Ouma. He was in his prime then.

He probably PEAKED circa the Mackin or Curtis Stevens fight.

  23. Jesus of montreal

Maybe, but he looked like crap doing it, and Ouma was getting beat up left and right at that point in his career.

Jacobs is better than Taylor imo. Bigger puncher. Better at countering. More talented.

Imo fighter who loses the first round and blows his opponent away in three does not look like shit, usually

Jacobs and Taylor is a close comparison. Jacobs is a bigger puncher, with better technique... but Taylor was faster and more athletic.

Personally, I think unlike Golov, Pav would have wrecked Jacobs.

I don’t think Canelo would be active enough. Pavlik had a good workrate in addition to having quite an edge in height and reach. Canelo is solid defensively and would Pavlik miss a lot, but not enough, and wouldn’t land enough.

It wouldn’t quite be like GGG-Canelo, but it would have a similar pattern in Canelo having success in spots, but not throwing much and having to conserve his energy...and also Pavlik/GGG being effective with the jab and just being more active.

    Pavlik 8-4

Thats absurd. You can blow someone in a round and look rubbish doing so

  29. Ugotabe Kidding

Of course it is possible but it wasn't the case in fights mentioned. It is a juvenile thought that a fighter should win every second of every round. Michael Spinks "looked like shit" in most of his fights for five rounds and it meant nothing

  30. Jesus of montreal

Nothing Juvenile about it. Looking like shit against limited guys like Geale and Monroe has to be taken into consideration, especially when you have a guy who's resume is so thin (hence why the Spinks argument is not a good one). Now, I know that you tend to go all emotionnal and use all kind of nonsensical ''logic'' whenever someone criticize one of your favorite fighter, but please spare me the insults
