The decade universally considered the strongest in cinematic in history. Simply, what would you consider the three best movies of the decade?

    IMO:

    1. Godfather 1
    2. Chinatown
    3. Network

  2. Destruction and Mayhem

Anyway...so many great films to choose from. Hard to pick just three.

    I'll venture

    Godfather 1
    Jaws
    Star Wars

I debated between Jaws and Network at the third spot. GF 1 and Chinatown were easy for me.

Every decade since the 60s is loaded with great films IMO. But yes, 70s was a very high standard. You can even add Alien, Rocky, Deer Hunter, Close encounters to the ones already listed.

The 50s is loaded with classics... namely 12 Angry Men, Vertigo, and Ben Hur.

    Apocalypse Now
    Chinatown
    The Excorcist

From a list littered with so many great, memorable and re-watchable movies (unlike Anthony's 1990s fixation) its really hard to pick three from 1970-79.

    Nearly impossible

    The Godfather
    The French Connection
    Dog Day Afternoon

But so many other amazing worthy candidates, several mentioned already

Clearly CLEARLY the best decade ever for film and it's not even remotely close ... when the artists held the most power, the way it should always be

Surprised The Conversation didn't make your top 3.

The Conversation is a better movie than French Connection and Dog Day imo.

BTW, I can't give Sly too much flack for Jaws. Jaws truly is an incredible movie, and one of the most important movies in cinema history.

Star Wars is shit though. ALLLLLL of them.

Like I said it's basically impossible... I don't have a problem with someone ranking The Conversation higher

Jaws is a great movie... Star Wars not so much

I'm curious which of the three critically acclaimed and also extremely popular films I picked makes me a "snob" to him

The only Star Wars that even flirts with being a great film is ESB

The first two are both legitimately great films. the first one changed cinema forever and gave us the most iconic villain in history.

Cdogg, to be honest, I'm not THE BIGGEST French Connection fan.

I don't even think it was a top 2 movie that William Friedkin made in the decade.

I think both The Excorcist and Sorcerer are better, but that's just me.

Taxi Driver, though I've been critical of it in the past, is definitely somewhere in the top 10 of the 70s.

ESB is better than the original, but the original is also great.

    You, however, are a cunt.

The French Connection is so much more than just its story ... it is a true FILM

    The Excorcist? Good movie ... don't think it's a top 20 70s movie

Sounds like you're evaluating something besides the content of the film

Using those adjectives, Star Wars qualifies even more
