    yes and no.

Extra weight will makes you punch harder, but agreed that the main facor is size

  3. Fair post.
But answer this: howcome Lennox Lewis, who, between 1989-94 weighed in at anywhere between 220-230lb...then bulked-up to 245-255lb after McCall stopped him in the mid-90s, and definately produced more KO power and cemented his legacy as one of the biggest punchers in heavyweight boxing history.

I think with Lewis it was a case of improved technique under Steward more than the added weight. If you watch him under Correa his legs were ridiculously far apart and he was sloppy as hell.

  5. Lennox did not suddenly become a big puncher. He was always a big puncher. He knocked out ruddock to 2 quick rounds when Tyson couldn’t do it in 19. That was pre Manny Stewart and pre FATNESS. The extra fat didn’t make him punch harder

gaining fat and muscle definitively will make you punch harder. My weight fluctuated a lot since my early 20's, and I punch much harder at 230, than I did at 154. It's simple physic and claiming otherwise is ignorant.

the thing is bloating up to a certain weight will not makes you punch as hard as a natural guy at that weight

  7. At your natural healthy weight you are at your best in every category. But most importantly, size is correlated with power not fat. If Ernie shavers blew up to 300lbs he’d be much slower and as a result would lose snap and therefore power

Again, that's nonsense. HW James Toney was puncher much harder than MW one.

Size is more correlated than fat with power, but fat,to a certain extent, will make you punch harder

Agreed. Lennox was definitely raw and unpolished, despite the apparent talent. I think Steward refined him more than anything.

I got Wilder in this one...big. I think once Wilder charges across that ring, Ortiz is going to do just like all the other stiffs Wilder has been running through, he’s going to freeze, cover up and go into a defensive shell which will lead to him getting KO’d. Ortiz may eventually throw a few wild panicked punches that will leave him open to counters but for the most part he will get dominated just like the rest of them.

215 seems too light for Wilder. Maybe we'll be able to see a difference, maybe not.

Bowe, Akinwande, Lewis...they all started out in the high 220's and all did well there. Still, it seems like the optimal weight for someone 6'6" or 6'7" should be 235-250 based on watching them and others since them. That said, outliers might be better off heavier or lighter. But 215?

What if Wilder weighed 241 and Ortiz weighed 215?
