I just performed a styles analysis on Joshua vs Parker

Discussion in 'General Boxing Discussion' started by Destruction and Mayhem, Mar 11, 2018.

  1. First round is going to be like the first round of Hagler vs Hearns. It's going to be absolutely nuts.

Parker, like Joshua, doesn't take a backwards step. So they'll meet in the center of the ring and Joshua will begin the offensive, Parker will respond ferociously, possibly stunning Joshua momentarily and then Joshua will come back at him and finish the round strong. The entire fight will be a war...my question is, how good is Parker's defense? The fight depends on that, IMO. If Parker gets hit too frequently Joshua will stop him by the 8th. If Parker's defense is solid then Parker may stop a fatigued Joshua by the 11th.

I expect Joshua to win, as he's stronger and more powerful, but there's always the possibility of him gassing in trying to knock out Parker who I suspect has a very solid chin.

Joshua hasn't thrown a meaningful first round punch in about his last five fights...

Parker's defence isn't wonderful, he's a bit of a plodder but yeah chin seems decent to date.

I dunno - both these guys will be wary in the first I reckon, just a feeling out session to see what each other has.

Although, I imagine that Parker won't simply try to go all dancing twinkle toes with AJ - at some stage the plan has to be to have a good throw and try to get him outta there.

Watch Joshua's last five fights. Ever since he 'stepped up' his comp, he's spent each first round just plodding around, poking about with a jab and having a look at things. He's barely thrown a proper punch in any of them.

Sly somehow thinks this means that, this time around, he'll engage his man in a 'one for the ages' firefight.

  5. Dillian Whyte got under his skin and he went after him from the opening bell. Parker has got under his skin also so we’ll see the same thing. But more than that is the styles thing. Neither man takes a backwards step and that’s the important thing. All both men do is advance on their opponents and whenever you have two guys that fight that way it’s always a firefight.

Joshua ran from Wald for about four rounds. He only got back on the case when it was clear he needed a stoppage to win, even though he was absolutely dead on his feet. He also does not go after people in the first round anymore. He hasn't in any fight in the last year, at least.

He'd be nuts to try to take Parker out in one round, he'd probably get taken out himself.

  8. My feeling is that he’ll test parker’s chin early. Parker hasn’t yet fought a guy with the power that Joshua has. Parker is also slightly smaller. I think Joshua would want to immediately let parker know what he’s in with before he gets too comfortable. My feeling is that after the hellacious first round the guys will settle down somewhat and try to establish pace and position. No matter how good parker’s chin is, if it gets hit to many times by Joshua’s superior firepower it will crack eventually.

I'd be very very surprised if AJ try to jump on Parker early

  10. Joshua was winning that fight on points. I don’t see why he’d feel he needs to stop Wlad to win. Joshua is just a naturally aggressive fighter.

come on AJ was losing that fight. Maybe friendly judges had him ahead, but everybody who wasn't biaised or bought knew he was losing that fight prior to the KO

Believe it or not, I've never even seen Parker fight. How good is he? What's he like stylistically?

I seem to remember him getting talked about as a total scrub on here (like most fighters I guess :D ) but now none of you seem to think it's an easy fight for Joshua.

  14. Parker has fast hands (very fast for a heavyweight) and a decent amount of power, though not in Joshua league (let alone wilder). His main strength seems to be his chin. He doesn't seem terribly accurate with his punches though considering how fast his hands are and he doesn't fight tall at all. He's a warrior with decent skills.

Stylistically - bit of a plodder, decent power and handspeed, pretty basic sorta guy really without any stunning features.

AJ is not that kind of fighter. Even when he was getting a lot of early KOs, a lot of them were trivial ref stoppages that maybe could have gone on or not.

I expect him to win and get Parker out of there mid to late rounds after some feel out rounds.

I'd be shocked if he takes Parker out within 4 rounds.

  20. Nah...I be involved in deep analysis. Some Einstein, Isaak Newton type shit. Too deep for you to swim in.

You must be crazy. I had Joshua handily down, and even the incredibly biased UK comms calling the fight had Joshua losing at the start of the 11th.

I love Sly's posts. Who else would open up with 'I just performed a styles analysis...' in the manner of a coroner who annouces that he has just performed an autopsy.

  25. Thanks man. When I finally leave this graveyard for good, y'all are going to miss these types of threads as they generate excitement and discussion. Hoping to quit before this summer but I need a new method as my current fightbeatorette gum isn't as effective as I would have hoped.

Seriously though, I need to leave. It's become an addiction. I'm always visiting this site. What's driving it is that I have no one around me to discuss boxing on a daily basis and I always feel the need to connect with fellow boxing fans. But fuck it...wasting too much of my time on it. I'm going to try to retire after Joshua-Parker.
