Perhaps it was s good film.

 

The fact you don't /can't see this movie's success is totally about race says a lot about you...or more importantly, your ignorance/naivety*.

if you simply took this movie and replaced black panther with say an Asian superhero and called it yellow cricket you wouldn't rave about it. it's an ok movie nothing less nothing more.

 

Captain America is the most likely character to die in this film as well as Thor (Marvel has not renew the actors contracts).

 

There are many excellent Asian films. I would watch it if it was 'Yellow Cricket' from Wanyuan, no problem.

No one would rave about it...because Asians (or Indians) can't sell films.

I think the opposite is true. I think that if it were an all white cast, you would say that it's a good film.

 

stop it man. I enjoyed the black cast! Although that white guy claw was great! Don't play the race game. All I'm saying it was an average movie .

If you think it's an average movie, that's cool, but no need for you to inject race into it.

 

It SHOULD beat Panther's record. I hope it's a better film than Panther also. This film is the culmination of all the MCU films to date. This is the film also MCU fans have been waiting for, It better not disappoint.

It's in the safe hands of the Russo brothers anyway, so I expect it to live up to the hype.

 

Because the message of race is clearly displayed throughout the movie anyway.

What other reason could it be that people and lots of black people are using the adjective 'important' when talking about this movie?

 

Yes, lot's of US blacks love to play the race game, and I disagree with them for the most part. The race angle is only a small part of this film - Killmonger's motivations. Most of the film is about protecting Wakanda's vibranium from the outside world.

I thin the reason why many black people are saying this film is important is to do with something I've said for years - there needs to be less black films made about the negative stereotypes of black experience in the US (Drugs, gangs, poverty) and more depicting us in a better light. This film, whether fictional or not, is about Black Kings and rulers...and so that's why it's "important". But the film itself doesn't overwhelm us with racial themes like you're suggesting.

I just hope the Russo Brothers don't end up suffering the 'director's big budget production fatigue' curse that caused many directors, like Joss Whedon and Peter Jackson, to deliver less than stellar sequels. Maybe after this one they should take a year off, do a small budget film and comeback revitalized.

 

Well, but you cannot deny that the media has overhyped the film with PC bullshit and calling it as important and groundbreaking as ROOTS was in the 70s. It is not even close to the transformative cultural phenomenon that mini-series was.

 

Sure...some people have gone overboard...but it doesn't change the fact that it is a very good film.

 

The film is good, but it also stucked to the Marvel formula like all the previous origin films. Hardly the 'groundbreaking...original' plot critics hyped. The 97% RT score is a little misleading to be honest.
