Chinatown vs Taxi Driver

Better movie?

 

Taxi Driver and is not even close!

 

Chinatown is a brilliant film but Taxi Driver is more substantial to me

Chinatown is a particularly excellent example of neo-noir

Taxi Driver goes beyond a particular genre and becomes maybe the finest depiction of isolation, in particular the paradoxical isolation that occurs in places with dense populations... urban alienation... in all of cinema. Hugely impressive film.

 

Taxi Driver is basically a neo-noir as well.

 

No way ... its storyline is completely unlike anything in Noir cinema

 

As is the dark lightning and overall ominous tone.

Taxi Driver is a neo noir and it's often categorized as such.

Personally, I think Chinatown is the better movie.

Performance-for-performance, DeNiro's was better than Jack's, which is saying a lot, cause Jack's acting in Chinatown was brilliant.

I love Taxi Driver but with Chinatown, the perverted Roman Polanski caught lightning-in-a-bottle with that one...

 

The scene in Taxi Driver where Travis fellow driver is giving him advice and Travis response was one of the most realistic and comical scenes I have ever watched. At that moment I knew that this was a great film.

 

The best scene in Taxi Driver is with Easy Andy the travelling salesman.

 

The scene where he shoots the guy robbing the store and the store owner shoos him away, takes his gun, tells him not to worry and then starts WHACKING THE BODY WITH A CROWBAR is insane and kinda hilarious

 

It is hilarious.
Mainly because the shopkeeper starts mumbling something incoherently in Italian to Travis, while smashing fock outta the negro, after propping him upright first!!
