Is Psycho the GOAT thriller?

It's considered by most movie buffs to be the GOAT thriller/horror movie... can any other film claim the crown?

I'd say no. All things considered, I think it should rightfully be considered the GOAT of the genre.

 

Despite being copied 7500000 times, it still holds up well

Hmm... I am checking many lists online and honestly none of those films listed comes close to the masterpiece level of 'Psycho'. I will mention in a distant second 'The Silence of the Lambs' and the underrated but highly spooky 'The Innocents'(1961).

Are you referring to Manhunter? That ain't no British film, it was directed by Michael Mann.

Manhunter is a good movie, but it's not in the same league as Lambs... not even close.

And Lambs is brilliant movie... but Psycho is better.

Peterson was better than Foster. That I can agree with you. Peterson is the main reason why Manhunter is good.

Cox damn sure wasn't as good as Hopkins though. That's just insane.

 

Edward Norton was fucking horrendous trying to play Peterson's role in Red Dragon.

 

Different approach to the character.
Hopkirt played it like a theatrical drama role.
Cox was unnervingly believable.
