I tend to agree. Blocker was a little fragile though and Garcia punches hard enough to have hurt and stopped him.
Simon Brown had to hit him quite a bit to do that and he hit harder and was better than Garcia by a distance
No, he doesn't. Garcia's power at 147 is a myth. He has yet to stop a natural welterweight. Forgive me if I'm not impressed that he KO'd Rios, a guy who was washed up, had his best days at 135, and never had any business at 147. Blocker didn't become super fragile until after the grueling war with Brown, and at 147 Brown was a much bigger hitter than Garcia.
Yeah Danny's power didn't ce up with him. Never was that more clear than against Thurman. A guy that Porter was able to hurt to the body twice. Blocker maybe didn't have the best chin but he took Brown's best into the championship rounds. That definitely counts for a lot IMO.
Blocker gets remembered as a doily mainly because he got knocked out by Terry "give me your tiny, your shot, your welterweights" Norris which set him up to be knocked out all over again, this time by Felix Trinidad
Garcia is a huge puncher, even has a WW. He has more than enough power to KO Blocker. Now, does he has enought skills to make this power usefull against Blocker, I'm not sure
Yeah, Danny sure has proven legendary power against the likes of Khan, the corpse of Morales, Rod Salka, Samuel Vargas, and a shot Rios. A Puerto Rican Bob Foster for sure.
In terms of Puerto Rican punchers, Danny wouldn't even rate on the bottom tier since he doesn't really qualify as a puncher.
Danny gets very good leverage on his punches when he's set. He put a few guys literally to sleep. You dont achieve this if you are not a puncher. He has a lot of flaws in his game which make him unable to use his power effectively most of the time, but questionning is power per se is crazy imo
If you have to ko good/great fighters in order to be qualified as a huge puncher, then Foster doesnt really cut it. Bar tiger, who was really a mw, which good fighter did he koed? Obviously, this is not the only criteria to take into consideration
Garcia is without a doubt a puncher. Does he rate among the elite pr punchers. Of course not. But saying hes not a puncher is absurd. Pretty much everytime he hit a guy clean, he hurt him
