"5-8-6" by New Order, (I can't understand why a lot of fans like it. It sounds like something The Fixx would use as a B-side.) "Why Can't I Be You?" by The Cure. Not one of their finest moments. Somehow that was released as a single when it never should have made it out of the studio. I"ll get flack for this but "Helter Skelter" by the Beatles. Could never get into that one.
Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd, not because its a shit song generally, but basically because every fuckin metal-head goes on about it being some Holy Grail of Pink Floyd because of that boring guitar solo by Dave ´My-guitar-solos-sound-fucking-generic´ Gilmour
In the documentary for the making of The Wall, they said Gilmour and Waters had butted heads for the entire session and Waters was always putting limits on Gilmour's solos. So when they got around to recording "Comfprtbably Numb" Waterd was tired of dealing with it so he just said "Fuck it, do what you wish."
And so he basically went and did a longer variation on his solo from 'Pigs (Three Different Ones)' off the Animals album from two years earlier...
I like Animals but it's a little cold to me and it's too much Roger Waters vision alone (which is one of several reasons The Wall is so shitty) ... WYWH was sort of the last album by the group
I don't like Comfortably Numb purely because it takes so fucking long to get to the solo. The run-up to it is turgid.
Once when I was drunk at a party someone shoved a guitar into my hands and before I knew it people are shouting requests at me... They wouldn't shut up about "Comfortably Numb" which I didn't want to do especially because the Roger Waters part is so silly to sing... I gave in and sang it perfectly straight right up to when you are supposed to resolve to the "IIIIIIIIIIIIII have become...." part except I kept going back to the beginning of the chorus so it would be like "... I cannot put my finger on it now ... the child is grown, the dream is gone... WHEN I was a child I had a fever..." over and over ... I almost did it a third time before somebody finally realized the payoff wasn't coming
Live Evil is the last absolutely great Miles Davis album ... anything after that runs the gamut from pretty good to terrible and the 80s stuff is world class elevator music
