A unification fight between two quality fighters, not two clumsy bums. I've switched my prediction. I was taking Lara by decision at first, but now I'm going with the upset. Hurd will wear Lara down, and do enough to take a deserved decision. It'll be interestin though, because Hurd forces guys to fight, but Lara counters with more speed and power than Hurd has ever seen.
Logic says Lara wins a decision but there is that impending feeling that Hurd may just be in perfect position to make a statement. My gut tells me that Hurd will stop Lara in the late rounds in an entertaining fight. I think he'll be down on the cards when that stoppage arrives.
None of you heavyweight loving fags has anything to say about this matchup? Gahhdamn, this is becoming a mainstream forum...
The thing is, Hurd's style will force Lara to HAVE to fight. He won't plod around like spurt fighting piece of shit like Clenelo. He'll be on Lara's ass, which will force Lara to counter. Now, this could very well backfire for Hurd... he was getting hit A LOT by Trout, and he can't afford to get hit by Lara with that frequency. Or, it could play in Hurd's favor and it could burn Lara out. I think it's a VERY compelling styles matchup. I can't understand how you guys can get excited to watch two clumsy bums like Joshua and Parker, yet not get excited for a matchup like this.
I haven't seen much of Hurd if I'm honest. Also, I'm not sure if they're actually showing it here. Will check the BoxNation schedule, probably the best bet.
Hurd's a quality fighter. This fight will decide who should rightfully be considered the king at 154.
Jermell is the one who fights at 154. Both matchups would be compelling, but I'd much rather see Charlo-Hurd, and it's always better for boxing if the younger, fresher guy wins. There'd be bad blood between Charlo and Hurd, whereas I'm pretty sure that Lara is good friends with both Charlo brothers.
Been watching some Nate Gallimore fights... This dude can HIT. He has a mean left hook. J-Rock had better keep his hands up and chin tucked, and he'll have to check his own instincts to fight back when hurt or he's in trouble.
I agree this is a compelling matchup for the reasons you've stated. And I agree that Hurd's aggression and his not having to be set to punch (as he showed against Trout) could be the key to unseating Lara. The only thing I worry about for Hurd though is that his workrate will afford Lara a lot of countering opportunities. Against Trout, this was not a factor because Hurd basically walked through Trout's offense. But Lara is a sharper puncher than Trout with better hand-speed. It is thus possible that Hurd will not be able to brush off Lara's offense the way he did Trout's. Maybe he gets gun-shy as a result, or worse, hurt and possibly stopped. On top of that, Hurd is fairly raw. So Lara may find him easy to time. I'm definitely looking forward to this matchup but not ready yet to make a prediction. One encouraging thing for Hurd is, based on an interview with him, he seems to umderstand what he's up against and what he'll need to win. So I don't expect some crazy shit like him trying to show up and box the boxer or some hair-brained shit like that.
If Lara beats Hurd, it's time to give him his due. Boring or not, he'll have had an excellent career. A career that would have looked even better if the judges didn't rob him against Tall Paul and Clenelo.
Yeah, but that is because you often judge fight with your heart. I was rooting for lara, but i dont think he did enough to wins it. It was far too close to be a robbery
Which is why it's better for the sport if Hurd wins. A Hurd-Charlo unification fight is very exciting.
2 days left! I'm really fuckin pumped for this one! I think it's gonna be more exciting than people expect. I do NOT think Lara is gonna run. He doesn't have the legs anymore to fight Hurd the way he fought Clenelo. I think there's gonna be fireworks in this one, and there's a good chance of one of them getting stopped - either Hurd walking into too many counters or Lara getting grinded down.
One of the better fights of the year. 154 is once again one if the top 3 hottest divisions in the sport. Rarely does it appear to lack for talent.
