For the record, I think SOG is much better.

The Departed is a convoluted piece of shit.

Scorsese got robbed for Best Picture on three classics, then finally won Best Picture on mediocrity.

    Yep.
It's good in parts and has a great cast but overall, I didnt like it.

And the multiple-twist-when-is-movie-going-to-end? ending was fuckin stoopid.

I mean, SOG is no masterpiece. I just think it its better than The Departed... for two reasons... number one, Gary Oldman... and two... Ed Harris plays a much better villain in SOG than the corpse of Nicholson does in Departed.

I figure you're probably right... I just can't remember SOG because I saw it so long ago

I remember State of Grace being good, but not great. The characters aren’t memorable like The Departed. Just a bunch of dirty looking Irishman with sweaty foreheads.

    1. No, SOG is not a great movie. Especially not considering it dropped the same year as two GREAT crime movies - Goodfellas and Miller's Crossing. But it is a good movie, and I find it a lot more rewatchable than The Departed.

    2. No character in The Departed is memorable. The movie has a lot of star power, and we all remember that Jack, Leo, Matt Damon, and Marky Mark are in it... but nothing sticks out about it.

Jack was washed up and out of place. Leo is an excellent actor, but The Departed was far from one of his best performances. Marky Mark was good, but even his performance was overrated. And Matt Damon is shit and

Ray Winstone was probably the best character in the movie.

I’ve watched SOG more than once and I honestly cant remember who was in it besides Oldman. Or what the plot was.

Well.. Sean Penn was the lead actor, but he was badly out-acted by both Oldman and Ed Harris.

John Turturro is in it also.

Jack Nicholson and DiCaprio were awful choices for The Departed

Agreed with every sentence of this.

It's also absurd that we're supposed to believe that Jack Nicholson's character would have no clue who the rat among his crew is, when his problems only started after he allowed a young known ex-cop to join.
