I'd take Spence. He's younger and fresher than Lara, physically stronger than Lara, no less accurate, and far more suited for a physical, high-paced war. I don't think Hurd's size alone would be enough to overcome Spence's big edge in talent and skill. Yes, it would be the toughest fight of Spence's career, but I think his skill wins.
Look, Thuman ain't fighting Spence no time soon and neither is Crawford. Maybe Spence should move up and become a two division champion. Hurd's a FAR bigger challenge than Run Time.
I don’t think Hurd’s great but if I were a welter that could still make weight there’s no way I’d move up to fight that giant peroxide zombie. When you know there’s no way a guy is going to stay at the weight he’s at and he’s already in a higher division then he’s just too big.
One thing about Spence compared to Lara is the big difference in body punching. Lara ain't never thrown more like 3-4 body punches in his whole damn career. Trout aint known as a body puncher either. Hurd took the head shots all night, but we'll see how fresh he is in the late rounds after Spence is banging his body every round consistently.
I'd pick Spence to easily exploit the gaps that Hurd leaves. Spence also has the strength to hold his own ground and push Hurd back and break his forward momentum. Spence's own countering skills would be very problematic for Hurd, much like Lara's, but I think Spence's punches would have more effect, especially due to the fact that he strings combos together better than Lara. Would be a good fight, but I have little doubt Spence wins it. I'd like to see Hurd against someone like Julian Williams or Kell Brook to see how he handles that.
