Cut copy, the avalanches, the birthday party (and their lead singer Nick Cave), go betweens? A lot would suggest that latter though I wasn't a fan.

    There's tons of good Australian stuff, generally it's not the popular dross foisted on idiots from the 90's and beyond, but under the radar stuff from the 70s and 80s most people wouldn't have heard of such as;

Midnight Oil (before their new crap)

The Saints (they invented the punk sound, oh yes they did alright)

Cold Chisel (popular among bogans despite their crisp melodic '70's sound)

Radio Birdman (Lead singer was American who flew backseat in F-14 Tomcats and was also a brain surgeon)

Hoodoo Gurus (I went to school with the guitarist)

The Church (just decent all round)

The Church - Under The Milky Way

Australian Crawl (iconic songs from the '70's to the '90's)

Australian Crawl - Beautiful People (1980)

Powderfinger (from my home town, also went to school with the guitarist)

    Powderfinger - My Happiness

    The Models (classic 80's)

MODELS - I Hear a Motion (High Quality)

Men at Work (forget the stupid Down Under crap)

Be Good Johnny - Men At Work

The Angels (biker blues rock, remains popular in rough pubs)

The Angels - Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again

    Flowers (became Icehouse)

Icehouse - We Can Get Together

    Frente.

I used to drink a lot at an old dive bar in Richmond Victoria back in 2005 and one of my drinking buddies was the old bass player Tim O'Connor from Frente. He was the dude that they blamed for the horrible failure that was "Accidentally Kelly Street". Tim O Connor basically wrote that song and his signature gay bassline was the big song hook. The song was about a share house he lived in down the road where he had good times.

The song wasn't really a failure, it was their best charting song ever and a pop staple. But the video clip was so terrible, it made the band a complete laughing stock worldwide. It got so bad, tha record label re-shot the video. But it was too late. Most of the band had nervous breakdowns and mental illness issues due to embarassment.

Anyway they sacked Tim as bass player because, well, he wrote the song. I don't think he ever recovered - he was an absolute pisshead, and that's sayng something because so was I. This dude was something else, drank like a fish all day every day. He still wrote music and I had a couple of EPs of his he gave me in a drunken state, but they're gone now.

    So yeah Frente.
