James Toney v Nigel Benn / Chris Eubank

Discussion in 'Mythical Matchups' started by Rich ´Money´ Mustard, Apr 14, 2018.

  1. In 1993-94, at 168lb

I´m actually surprised no-0ne´s posted this matchup yet because it should have occurred as this interview from 1993 was speculating. (check out a normal-looking Mickey Rourke with Toney at the gym!)

He absolutely carves up Benn like a turkey and stops him

He beats Eubank but the fight is dull with lots of inaction

Toney was simply a level above both.

This is easy work for toney. Still a shame that these fights never happened

  6. Yeah, I remember watching that show live and was hoping for these fights to happen but knew they wouldn't...especially Eubank, as he was overprotected by Barry Hearn. Benn and his camp at least had teh balls to take on dangerous American opponents.

  7. Eubank did that deal with SKY Sports - something like 10-fights for £8-9m or so and they were all tepid, boring affairs where Eubank just did enough to win...

Yeah, eubank was pretty much a fraud

  9. Good fighter but refused to truly challenge himself. Taking on Benn, Watson and Collins is good...but what about all of the American bad boys? To call yourself "simply the best" you HAVE to take on African American champions.

  10. ...holder of the WBO Super-middleweight belt.
