Well they were pretty much in each other's faces mouthing off. Khan saying that he's now chasing Brook, but really it's Brook who wants Khan next and it's Khan going on about winning world titles again and not calling out Brook next. Eddie then stepped in to say that weight is an issue and they need to sit down and talk money etc. To be honest, now is not ideal timing as Khan has fought only for 40 seconds in almost two years and needs rounds under his belt, but how bloody long will it take before we see them actually fight?! Tonight, for the first time in years, I'm buzzing for them to get it on but I am still not convinced they will. Perhaps it will come to a point where they will have no other option but to fight each other.
Khan, as a fighter, has always had fast hands and a big heart. Intangibly, he's always been brilliant also at "Bum-Beating". You get a guy like, for example, Wlad, Holyfield, Vitali, Lewis, as examples. They could face a real threat and spend 5 rounds dealing with them, or they could face a bum and wind up making a meal of it, however dominantly. Guys like Froch, Khan, Naseem Hamed, for example, always took out trash in style. Khan has that "ability" if that's what we want to call it. Take the trash out fast. As Xplosive says, nothing has really changed. Khans flaws are still there, Brook is damaged goods but he's no bum, and Khan will struggle at best. I expect Khan to start fast, look good in bursts, then get clipped and just get basically found out, then bombed out.
I think Khan is finished State-Side. Khan and his people enjoy being the dominant party in negotiations and, right or wrong, Broner and his lot would never allow that. Khan got tired, quickly, of the chase he underwent with Pacquaio and Floyd, preferring to get bombed out by Alvarez rather than maintain that tiring debacle where he would be dictated to entirely. Khan much prefers the concept of a Summertime, outdoor clash with Brook in a packed stadium, with lots of Angst and Weapons-Grade posing along the way.
This is the most likely scenario, I agree. The other possibility is that Khan shoeshines Brook with enough early to stop him. Khan doesn't hit very hard but his speed allows him to hit fighters early with shots that catch them off guard and his body attack is actually decent. It is perfectly possible he gets Brook early doors: nothing I have seen since Brook stepped up his comp has changed my view that he is one of the most overrated, overprotected fighters I have ever seen. He's basically beaten one good fighter in his entire career and lost to all the other ones he fought. He's also shown a bit of 'give' in his two stoppage defeats - he basically looked for somewhere to lie down once GGG got to him and against Spence he gave the job up once he realised by the 7th that the tide of the fight had turned (save his all-or-nothing charge in the round before he got stopped). If Khan had a half-decent chin I would have picked him to beat Brook fairly comfortably. As he has a chin like a 6 year old lass, you cannot pick him with any confidence to beat anyone at all. MTF
GGG I'll give you, although I don't necessarily agree. I don't really go along with the Spence one though. He fought his arse off in that fight, and having had previous knowledge of that particular injury and what it could potentially entail, I can't really knock him for doing what he did. He was arguably 5-1 up at one stage, nobody has given Spence anywhere near that kind of trouble before or since so he can't be that shit.
Brook won a good few of the first six rounds, but he never had Spence in any trouble at all and it always looked like Spence was just biding his time and working out what needed to be done. In the 7th he stepped on the gas and completely took over: by the 9th it was a question of when, not if, Spence got the stoppage. Brook was ahead on my card by a good few points starting the 8th, but he was beaten by that point. I didn't say Brook was 'shit'. He is, and was, very overrated and overprotected. The facts are that when he stepped up his comp, he lost. His entire career is built on his beating Porter. He has no other noteworthy wins. MTF
I hated Brook as much as anybody up until the Porter fight, his opposition was atrocious, he's literally gone the other way since and taken on two absolute monsters of the sport. The GGG fight may have been a cash out but he didn't have to take the Spence fight yet he did. There's no shame in losing to Spence and he gave Errol his toughest fight by quite a distance. He's a very good fighter, not elite, and I'd say he's rated just about right.
You spoke too soon. Khan says he wants Broner. I'm for it. The loser must do us a favor and fuck off forever.
Nah. It's a bargaining ploy with regards to Brook. "Fight me now on my terms and give me all your money or I will go to America and be the big star"- King Kon.
Does Khan have the brains to utilize any ploys? I just think it's simple he has no interest in fighting Brook, whereas Broner he views as a very beatable opponent he can make big money against.
I give Brook credit for taking the Spence fight. I never thought he would and I was wrong on that. But he didn't give Spence a tough fight at all. He won a few rounds which Spence sort of cruised through working out what Brook was all about and when he saw all he thought he needed to see he put his foot on the pedal and beat the fucking shit out of Brook. And I mean he beat him fucking shitless: Brook got punched all over the ring in the last few rounds of that fight. The fact that Brook won some rounds early doesn't really tell the story of the fight. He won some rounds but, like I said, even though he was ahead on the cards by the start of the 8th, he had already clearly lost the fight by KO. It was just a case of when. MTF
brook gave spence 1000% tougher fight than anyone before or since. i give brook a lot more credit for his loss to spence than his victory vs porter
I must have been watching a different fight to you fellas. I saw someone get their shit punched in by a guy who barely looked like he'd been scratched. MTF
It was dead even through 6. Then Spence took over, and it became a one sided dismantling. The fact that it's made a big deal that Brook took 3 rounds off Spence speaks volumes about how dominate Spence is.
That's pretty much it. Brook was probably better than anyone else Spence has fought but being more competitive than lots and lots of wholly competitive people doesn't make you competitive. MTF
