Most GRIM endings in film

Most films have feel good endings as that's the typical formula. Hero goes through trials and tribulations but at the end he prevails and all is right with the world.

However, every now and then a film breaks with the formula and has an ending that has you feeling depressed.

4. Unforgiven
5. Melancholia

‘The Mist’ - the ending tae that wiz even bleaker than Stephen King originally envisaged.
On the SK front, ‘Pet Semetary’ and ‘Carrie’.

 

The Mist is a great example.

 

Most of the 70s films had fucked-up endings until Star Wars came everything changed to feel-good again.

 

Empire Strikes Back didn't

 

Requiem For A Dream. Depressing as fuck.

Almost cartoonishly depressing

 

If by "Strikes Back", you're referring to her bludgeoning your entire family to death with a garbage can lid and leaving you an orphan in Limeydaftcuntshire or whatever setting in a Ray Davies song you lived in, then yes you're correct... happy times

What's so grim about that?
It's just an analogy on what everyone faces growing older.

Hardly grim unless you're depressed about life generally.

 

"Most films" do not have feel good endings, you fuckin idiot.

You only think that because the only movies you know are The Lion King, Avatar, Forrest Gump, and Chariots of Fire.

 

It's the only possible ending... the whole film is about the inevitability of mortality ... the inertia of existence

 

I know this will please Cdogg... The Conversation is the perfect example of a truly grim ending.

 

Buried

 

Buried is probably the ONLY good movie that hack Ryan Reynolds has ever been in.

 

Sorcerer had a grim ending.... also a grim beginning, and middle, so it only makes sense.

 

Tae be fair, Ah did enjoy ‘Deadpool’ but he’ll need another 8 movies or so befoor Ah’ll forget that ‘Green Lantern’, shite.

 

Quite a few movies here Ah havenae seen - and no’ sure if Ah wantae noo e.g. Buried, The Conversation and Sorcerer.

I don't understand why most movies have a happy ending. it's so dumb and predictable. We're not fucking kids (except panchy)we're not gonna cry all night if the protagonist dies. Keep me guessing till the very end you assholes

 

There’s no reasoning wi’ people who think that Chinatoon has a grimmer ending than Wickerman!

 

I'd say The Wickerman was more of a shock / disturbing ending than depressing or grim.
