So, instead of Donnie Lalonde Ray faces the farmer. I just rewatched Leonard vs Lalonde as I like that performance overall. Leonard was vicious, especially with his body punching. Now, Lalonde resembled Froch slightly with his clumsy style and he probably hit harder. However, Froch was clearly better fighter than him with better jab, better workrate and much better variety of skills. Leonard got hit much more than the legend of him has it. It is quite natural too, as he was much more aggressive and willing to engage than Floyd or Roy, but he could be caught with the jab and cross. He wasn't the biggest puncher but those combos were a thing of beauty. Lalonde controlled the action for four rounds against Leonard, though it seemed that Ray wasn't going on all cylinders at that point, instead he fought intelligently and upped the pressure as the fight wore on. How do you see Leonard vs Froch going? Does Froch have early success too, can he keep it up longer, can he survive to the final bell as Leonard turns up the heat? Does someone actually pick him?
Even at 168, I'm hesitant to confidently pick against Leonard in this matchup because the cunt had a knack for finding a way to win He wasn't the Leonard of legend anymore but he was still capable of pulling the rabbit out of the hat
Agreed with Cdogg. Frock would give Ray Hell with his size and strength, but based on class alone and his speed, I think Ray pulls it off.
Ray was miles better, P4P, but Froch was a big super-middle with good power, real farmer strength, a very good chin (I genuinely struggle to see Ray putting a dent in him unless he literally lands dozens of unanswered shots), loads of intangibles and one of the few modern fighters who would actually benefit from a fifteen round fight, rather than twelve. I pick Froch, purely based on his size and his finding a way to win loads of times when he probably shouldn't have. Not much confidence in the pick, though, and wouldn't argue too hard with anyone who thinks otherwise. MTF
Froch's chin was overrated. He was hard to stop, but he damn sure could be hurt. If slow ass Glenn Johnson could hurt him, Ray could definitely hurt him with the bombs he could Lalonde with. Froch was hardly Hagler in the chin department.
Leonard caught Lalonde all the time but only from the fifth round onwards did his shots have any effect. If Ray wins (and he might) it would have to be via fatigue
Glen Johnson was predominantly a lightheavy who has always punched hard and been tough as old boots. He's slow as molasses, but I'd be confident he punches harder than Ray did. Not P4P, but actually harder. Besides, at no stage did he have Froch in any kind if trouble, he just buzzed him with a couple of shots. Froch's chin is a little overrated. He had a very good chin, rather than the ATG chin some claim he had. He needed it, because the daft cunt got hit loads of times. MTF
Froch wasn't a daft fighter. For a guy as limited as he was, he actually had an above average ring IQ, which helped him. He isn't gonna out-think Leonard though, so he'd definitely have to impose his strength to win.
that long stiff ankward jab would be hell for Leonard. I don't think Froch only path to victory is to bully Leonard
