Give ´Em Enough Rope v Setting Sons

  1. Probably two of the greatest late 70s-early 80s British bands that got into the post-Punk/New Wave/Mod scene - and here are arguably their two most underrated albums:

Never got into either... the Jam strike me as more technically proficient but their aesthetic is almost impenetrably English for an outsider like me ... The Clash is more universal

I've liked some of what I've heard from The Clash and some of it leaves me cold

  3. Agreed on both points.

  4. Although I love both bands and (almost) everything they released....

The Jam guy later did a peculiar sort of white plastic R&B thing that was kind of fun but I can't remember the name of the band

  6. The Style Council - very hit and miss

    Yes that's the one

Could never stand Paul weller. London calling >>>>>>> give em enough rope of course

  9. Ditto, but only after The Jam and before he went solo!

I actually prefer Sandinista! to London Calling....albeit, trimmed down.

An unweildy amount of dross on sandinsta. A good 11 song album stretched out to a bad 40 song album

  11. But it's bearable dross!

I'd say both were rated just about right, but it has to be setting sons. The Jam had no great albums IMO, some might point to sound affects, always enjoyed in the city best

I wasn't a fan of either, the only Weller track I actually liked was the one which ripped off The Beatles 'Taxman', was called Start or something like that. Never got into The Clash, but their hits were good.
