All I know about him so far is this highlight reel and that he knocked out Nikola Skejloca in four, which is a very good result for an up and comer. Is he another hype job or do you see some real talent in him?

He had a trial for QPR and played briefly in one of our youth teams so he will have my support regardless of how good he actually is.

Looks very Jean Pascal-ish to me.

Big muscles. Easy to hit. In love with his power. 6 rounds of stamina. Yep.

Pascal had a good career considering how flawed he was. It'd be an accomplishment for Yarde to walk a similar path. Yarde could end up making some noise at 175, but does he look like he'd be a threat to Bivol anytime soon? Fuck no.

With hindsight, especially with regard to how badly Abraham, Kessler II, Taylor and others did.............Pascals war with Froch is a very noteworthy achievement.

Haven't watched it in years, but Froch-Pascal was a helluva fight. Very rare nowadays that you see two guys go all out like that with a title on the line.

Pascal's crowning achievement was taking Chad Dawson's 0. Dawson had totally underestimated Pascal though, and Pascal was saved by the hometown ref who stopped the fight due Dawson's cut, right at a point where Dawson was beating the shit outta a spent Pascal and looked on the verge of stopping him.

    Pascal had truly terrible stamina.

I dont agree that pascal was saved by the ref. Sure he was hurt, but he was far from done

He's about 70lbs lighter than Joshua, so he would want to be damned less robotic!!!

We'll soon find out about both men then, won't we.

Bookies, who are rarely if ever seen riding bicycles, have it as follows:

    -225 Kovalerv, that's 4/9 in normal numbers

    +175 Yarde, that's 7/4 in normal numbers.

Not exactly the bravest shit you ever saw from the bookies but Kovalev a clear favourite.

Not much of a gambler but do you think it's worth a flutter on Yarde?

I don't know what to make of Yarde, personally. He looks overmuscled but from the little I've seen he seems to have a fairly decent engine and wins convincingly, but he has fought total shit. This is a massive step up. It's like if a football team just beats League Two sides constantly and convincingly and then faces a top 4 Premier League side, obviously they're better than League Two standard, but does that mean they are Premier League standard? Guess we will find out.

Apparently Yarde laughed off Canelo's step aside offer which was equal to the amount of this fight

The only thing I can think of is that Yarde's people feel that Kovalev is finished or damaged goods, or that he has enough left so that Yarde merely loses and then becomes the new Kovalev once Kovalev loses.

I wouldn't bet on it. Kovalev has proven he can lose and Yarde has never beaten anyone.

How does fatso even enter the fray? He's a 175lbr pretending to be a 160lbr fighting 145lbrs.

That doesn't seem like a bad deal. He gets paid for not fighting the same amount he would've had to fight to earn. And presumably he gets a shot at the winner, no?

    Difficult to pick

If Kovalev boxes carefully like he did in his last fight, does this kid figure out how to solve it and land? I think if he figures it out, he wins... but I'm not certain he can

Definitely agree that only if he figures out how to do it will he be able to do it.

Except I didn't say that, stupid

If Kovalev elects to box safely, does this kid have the wherewithal to get his shots in? That's the first question ... the second is if he does get his shots in, does he take Kovalev out?

It's not automatic that if he succeeds at the first, he will succeed at the latter

But, imo it's a likely outcome (the latter) if the former happens

Kov is a shell of himself. He's going to get beaten by a fresher, hungrier, sharper guy. Yeah, I said it.

That's probably true but this is a huge step-up in competition for Anthony "I'm having a BBQ in my back-" Yarde
