Do you think there's truth to this? (I do). Is prefight abstinence the norm among boxers?

Growing up, I thought it was just a running joke, but having talked to some guys in the fight game and from hearing plenty of interviews of fighters who were asked the question (and they always get asked this question), it seems like a large percentage of boxers really do abstain from sex leading up to a fight.

I think there might be validity to it... to a CERTAIN degree. .. but logic says it's probably just 95% superstition. If I were a pro, I'd abstain from sex on fight week, but that's about it. I think it's unreasonable to believe that getting a good couple of fucks in 3-4 weeks prior to your fight will make any difference. In fact, it's probably healthy. Sex, in general, is good for you.

I think the only issue would be managing it in a way that it doesn't detract from training. It definitely can deplete your energy or at least your motivation to train if you're really going at it.

Depends on the individual. I'm sure there's a lot of guys who can train like a beast all day, go home, fuck their woman like a stallion, get sleep, and still hop up at the crack of dawn to train like a beast again.

What I definitely would NOT do is fuck on fight DAY! That would be foolish, and can definitely deplete your energy.

Here's the thing. Abstaining from sex keeps you hungry. Makes you work harder. Keeps you focused. You can't wait for sex till the fight is over. It's like telling a kid you get your toy after you do your homework. If he really wants that toy he will ace that shit. Now imagine if he already has that toy.. homework becomes kinda secondary and kinda whatever... sex is the carrot that makes the donkey run

I think MMA fighters abstain from sex months before their fights. That’s why they try to fuck each other during the fight.

"Like I said before" it depends on the individual. Each human being functions differently. For some guys, it's effective for them to always be on edge. For others, sex might be healthy to take the edge off of training and provide a healthy release.

Don't overthink it... it's just pussy.

As long as you're putting in the work in the gym and staying mentally focused on your opponent, a Lil trim ain't gonna do any harm.

But "like I said before" I would abstain during fight week.

  10. I think Pre-fight abstinence works for two reasons.

    1. When you go without sex for a long time you're hyper and mean and charged up. You're like a hungry hyena.
    2. Ejaculation weakens legs! (lol)

Pure puritanical idiocy. If you don't ejaculate willingly for a few days, you'll have some night time accident. The only impact is if the boxer is always running after woman and going out.

Curtis Cokes Advocated 2 Weeks of Abstinence as a REALISTIC Alternative.

He Personally Subscribed to it When he Fought and Asked it of his Fighters.

2 weeks before is very reasonable.

But if you're in an 8-week camp, and you're only 2 weeks in with 6 weeks to go, as long as you're training hard, absolutely get some pussy!

Horseface's logic doesn't make sense, because contrary to casual fan belief, it doesnt behoove a fighter to enter the ring tooo angry and on edge.

It's far more important to be loose, relaxed, and focused.

  15. Dunno about you but after sex I'm not as strong in the gym.

maybe 15 minutes after it. But after a few hours, it makes no difference

    I agree with Xplosive

For some it might work the way you described, whereas some simply can't concentrate to training if they have a boner all the time
