Sadam Ali vs Jamie Muguia

I'll watch this fight tomorrow. No one knows a lot about Munguia, besides the fact that he's 21, unbeaten, and has a high KO%. What we do know about Ali is that he has decent talent and skills, but a highly questionable chin. And.... look at the size difference.... an upset wouldn't be that shocking.

 

It won't be an upset, imo. Munguia is better.

 

Muguia is not the favourite, Ali is.

Watching YouTube vids of Munguia, if he can take a punch, I think he's gonna be too strong for Ali.

I bet you HBO is pulling for Munguia. They BADLY need a young, Mexican star to hype. Ali is the wrong race to market in America post 9/11, and he isnt that good. HBO needs a Munguia win.

Munguia can go far if has the typical iron Mexican chin. Ali's poor chin aside, Munguia definitely has fight ending power in that left hook.

 

I'm not sure where Ali goes from here. He stands no chance against the top fighters at 154, but even at 147, he can't beat Spence, Thurman, Garcia, or Porter.

 

You know I've argued with several of you over the years about size being more than weight, that frame plays a huge part in boxing and how big a fighter is, and you can't JUST go by weight? For example, I don't give a shit how heavy Canelo walks around with his fat little Ginger legs, no one can tell me he is bigger than Golovkin, or even Charlo, or Hurd. And in their fight, Golovkin was the boss, clearly bigger and stronger even though Canelo probably walks around heavier.

Well this illustrates that perfectly. By all accounts Munguia dwarfed Sadam, but look at the weights - they stepped into the ring at basically the same weight.

 

Size be damned. Munguia proved to be the better fighter.

In the end, Ali's claim to fame will be beating a corpse that used to be Cotto.

 

Agreed. And the same is to be said of guys like Vitali vs Danny Williams or Monzon vs Bennie Briscoe or Hearns vs a lot of guys he fought.

George Foreman used to be pilloried but he was right when he babbled on about wide shoulders and wide hips. It's hard to fight guys that are built that way and it requires something special to get out of their way and into range.

Weight and mass are important in terms of how you can absorb punishment but it more or less ends there if you cannot get into range.

Tua vs Lewis is a good example of a guy being totally defused because the bigger man used his tools to effect.

Even talented fighters like Holyfield suffered badly from being kept on the end of long jabs, a la vs Lewis and Bowe. Holyfield won precisely 1 out of 5 fights vs those two.

 

If Monzon were around today, I think his frame could accommodate 168 and he could dominate both 160-168.

 

I know Liam Smith is probably feeling gutted right now. I think he woulda beaten Ali. I called it months ago. He wouldn't have destroyed him like Munguia did, but I think he would have been too strong for Ali and grinded him down.

Now Smith will have to face Munguia for the belt, and Munguia will fuck Beefy up quite badly.
