Trinidad has a solid puncher's chance of course but he'd have to be careful himself in there in addition to having to deal with Curry's formidable skills I'd favor Curry most times
I used to favor Curry, but my opinion on the matchup has changed. I think Trinidad would have stopped him late.
Is this Tito with Los Manos De Actual Piedro or not? I think the guy who beats Tito is probably as tall and more cagey than powerful. There's very few 147-160lb fighters ever who just bomb Tito out. Fullmer might ragdoll him but it's a beat down rather than a lights-out stoppage and only after a good fight. Curry could do it but it's one thing to drop Trinidad it's something else to stop him. If there was some outright streak of physical vulnerability in Trinidad then I am sure that you couldn't have 3 guys like Reid, Vargas and Campas all drop him early and fail to finish the job at some point along the way.
If we're talking 147...Hearns would bomb out Tito early. Robinson very possibly would bomb him out early-to-mid. I just don't think Curry has the chin nor the HEART to handle 12 rounds of Tito's pressure and firepower. And Curry wasn't the type to get on his bike all night and run like Oscar.
There's a quite a few MIDDLEWEIGHTS who would bomb Tito out, Irish. McClellan, Rodrigo Valdez, Jackson, very possibly Benn, just to name a few.
Hearns was of course 6 ' 1" +............I still don't think he bombs him out early but he does finish it if he gets him hurt.
It's hard to imagine Hearns NOT hurting Tito early. Trinidad was actually pretty good at blocking/slipping left hooks, but he couldn't really avoid a good right cross. And we're talking about the right cross of Oba Carr...
I guess Tito doesn’t know how to fight at all. What do you think he’s going to be doing just standing there with his hands down? You’re imagining these guys just walking in and landing on Tito but they have to be careful of his power as well. I don’t think anyone in his weight class just comes in and bombs out Trinidad, he knew how to fight a little bit and he’s earned way more respect than that. And also why is this not in mythical matchups?
1. My track record of Trinidad posts should CLEARLY show that I think highly of him.... at 147-154 at least. At 160, there's many middleweights in history who beat him. 2. I simply posted it in the wrong section.
Curry is overrated as hell in these forums. Tito would stop him within six rounds. No doubt in my mind.
Trinidad gets to him late while down in the cards. I picture Trinidad-Reid here. Curry would be in control but the Trinidad pressure builds and eventually busts the pipe. Trinidad KO 12
Curry isn’t durable enough to be favored in a punch out and he’s not mobile enough to stay negative and outbox Trinidad. He’d be dangerous for the first half of the fight.
I don’t think Hearns would bomb Trinidad out early because it would be stupid to try. Tito had the power to knock him out, the length to touch him and Hearns was the much better and more mobile boxer. Trinidad wasn’t a 3rd world ugly midget like Cuevas and Duran.
