As much as I despise them, the Klits deserves a shout

Marcel Cerdan has to also rate among the top

True, but if you look at those 5 nations I listed....they have a total of 800 ´champions´ between them, with USA just over 1/2 that amount.
Just curious to know who is the best fighter from least successful nations.

Like JOM said, Marcel actually sprung to mind as soon as I read the title.

Then I realised fuck, some of the best fighters ever are from outside those countries, 3 of my favourites actually - Duran, Pacquiao, Golovkin.

I knew someone would say that, but I think he absolutely is, 100%. He has now tiedHopkins' record of 20 title defenses, and also had an amateur career of 345-5, and he's bludgeoned almost everyone he has fought as a pro.

Pretty hard to deny he is one of the best fighters of all time.

yeah, except for the only two decent guys he ever faced (and I stress on decent, cause Jacob and Canelo are far far from great), whom he only barely outpointed

Japan should be replaced with the former Soviet Union countries as a whole.

In fact, when you look at Mexico, out of their 185 champions in the last 100 years, only three have been at 160lb.
So, basically, the same weight-classes as Japan.

So, BOSS, your argument about ´kindergarten´ weight classes is a bit pointless.

If Duran, Robinson, Ali, Floyd, Hagler, Hearns, Roy are some of the best fighters that ever lived, what does it say for the opponents they struggled with in their prime, largely unheralded opponents?

You know boxing REED, you've seen enough of it throughout the ages to know that great fighters struggling with good fighters or sometimes even averageish fighters is nothing new. Sometimes a bad day at the office, sometimes bad style matchup, whatever the case, it's nothing new.

At the end of the day, he beat both fighters in 8-4ish decisions too, I mean really. People are acting like he lost. He didn't come close to losing to either of them, he just didn't demolish them as we've become accustomed too, so underdog syndrome kicked in.

Golovkin's achievements and ability are phenomenal, it's really not a stretch to consider him one of the best fighters ever. Not sure how he's lacked ambition either. Because he's stayed at 160? Did Monzon and Hagler also lack ambition? Should they have their atg status revoked accordingly? :D
