Gotta go with Gerry Cooney. Never beat a great fighter in their respective prime. Just a bum with an awesome left hook. Tommy Morrison in his prime woulda wasted Cooney
Larry Holmes told in his autobiography that he lost money betting on Cooney both against Spinks and Foreman. He felt that Cooney actually was a good fighter. That being said, he is a good pick, as are Grant, GOOFi, Etienne etc
There's a difference between overhyped and overrated. Grant was a fraud, and Ettiene was less than a fraud... he was a bum. Both were OVERHYPED. Overrated is different. You have to be some tier of quality fighter to be considered overrated.
Grant was the #1 contender, as was Cooney, and arguably in stronger era. So either both count, or neither does?
Grant is no longer rated so I won’t say he qualifies currently. But if we’re talking about the most overrated at any point in time then Grant is undisputed number one. However if we’re talking about most overrated from our perspective currently then it would have to be Frank Bruno. Some people here seem to think Bruno would have beaten Anthony Joshua?! To say it like a US ghetto n*gga....”now that’s overrated for yo ass!”.
I haven't seen Joshua being compared favourably to any past champ so I am not sure how he qualifies either btw. If you want to call him overrated because of the amount of publicity he receives, then Tyson dominates this race. He is the second-best known boxer ever, even though he isn't in the top 50 p4p
A.J. When you are in your prime and you struggle and almost get finished by a 40 year old Wlad in his retirement fight people should not talk about you as if you're some monster. You're decent and that's all. Lennox would smash you to pieces. Hell the Briggs that fought Lennox probably ko's you too.
If grant is over rated what does that make golota? Some still claim that guy was this great talent. Grant out gutted that pussy
True but who is doing the overrating? If it's just the UK, then yes, he's P4P #1. But how popular is Joshua worldwide?
you cannot go 12 rounds with Larry Holmes and leave him holding the ropes for support if you are a total bum. Come on. I would say Leon Spinks. Absolutely lucked out by getting a title shot before he could be exposed when the contenders were actually stronger than Ali, lucks out by facing a disinterested Ali, somehow gets his ass kicked when Ali is even older and basically enters a slide and decline where he manages stunning KO losses to white fighters too. Holmes said a lot of shit about Whitey but his comment about knowing that Spinks would end up with "Cornflakes for brains and $3 in his pocket" is about as withering an indictment as you can get.,
How in fact? Has anybody called them anything more than the two best guys of this moment and if so, where? I am not starting a fight nor driving an agenda here, I just find it very plausible that the best heavyweights of the moment get some publicity, even if the era itself is poor. Or can you point to a contrary example?
