I can understand how the idea of Cotto giving Ali problems ruffles a few afros but Cotto was an elite fighter at his best with the right style and attributes to give Ali a lot of problems and Ali just wasn’t this p4p supreme fighter that’s going to outclass elite p4p level fighters that often.

I’ve learned to generally avoid discussing Ali. He’s a more myth than man to most people.

Cotto has NO attributes that could have bothered a prime Ali, P4P. None. Zero. Nada. Zilch.

Short lil alligator arms. Not a huge puncher. Not especially fast. Mediocre defense. Average chin. Cuts and bruises easily. TERRIBLE stamina. Yeaaa.... sure sounds like the formula for giving Ali problems...

Cotto's career defining win was BARELY scraping by a faded Mosley, in a fight I had a draw. And that was Cotto at his VERY peak... barely managing to beat a Mosley who was 6 years removed from his peak.

Prime Ali stops Cotto... and it wouldn't be competitive. 10/10 times.

There is an ASTRONOMICAL gap in class between these two fighters. Astronomical.

Terp, I'd like for you to explain what in the world Miggy did better than Sonny Liston.

Liston was superior to Cotto at every single facet of boxing.

    Why Can't You?

REED Was Speaking of Cotto's Punch Resistance EXCLUSIVELY, Which was Shaky THROUGHOUT His Career, Evidenced By his Strange Propensity for Being HURT By Those Not Necessarily Known as Punchers...Corley and Sadam are Legit Examples, but REED Just as Easily Could've Noted the Clottey Fight Also...

i feel like cottos punch resistance is what it is. not great for sure, but not terrible. corley hurt him and torres hurt him when he was at the end of the line at 140 as far as making weight. when he got to welter at that point in his career he took some hard shots from guys who could crack. by the time he faced ali he was done

Yeah, in fairness to Cotto the Ali fight means nothing. Prime Cotto would have destroyed Sadam.

Still doesn't change the fact that the REAL Ali was several levels better than Cotto ever was.

Yeah, when he was at his peak at welter before the Margarito beat down he seemed to have a solid chin. Abdulaev, Bailey, Mosley, Judah and others caught him with some good shots.

He’s vulnerable to a big puncher and he can break down in a long rough fight but I wouldn’t assume an Ali level puncher p4p is just going to knock him silly.

And Ali was hurt, dropped and nearly ktfo a few times himself but those are legendary tales.

So I'm gonna assume you believe that robotic ass Quartey was a better fighter than Sonny Liston. Am I correct? If your answer is yes, I'm laughing the rest of today.

Yes. Sonny Liston was a pretty basic old school fighter and his best wins were over a chinny cruiserweight. I like him but he’s not really a p4p level fighter. Cotto and Quartey were better p4p fighters with better careers and Quartey didn’t even have that great a career.

I've heard a lot of outlandish boxing assertions in my time, but Miguel Cotto and Ike Quartey being better than Sonny Liston is pretty high on the ridiculousness list... might be tops on THIS forum.

    Yup
All the heavyweights passing the first round makes this tournament laughable at best.

    Consider the Source Bruh.

Terp’s Got a CERTIFIED FETISH for Diaperweights and the Fuuuuuuurther Removed from Them he Gets, the LESS Sense His Posts Make. He Doesn’t Know the 1st Thing about Liston’s Wins Over Cleveland Wiliams, Zora Folley and Others, Because when he Looks On Boxrec, Floyd Patterson’s the ONLY Name he Recognizes.

Nevermind The FACT Liston is 1 of THE HARDEST Punchers Who Ever Lived and was George Foreman and Mike Tyson BEFORE George Foreman and Mike Tyson.

This is a Guy who Predicted Rosendo Alvarez OVER Floyd Mayweather in a Mythical Matchup, FYI.

Ahhhhh yes, his obsessive hard-on for Rosendo "A nobody in the history of boxing" Alvarez.

This is an especially new low though... even for Terp.

Sonny Liston no better than Simon Brown? That's sig worthy.

Liston is a legendary name because he was a hw champ but he wasn’t an all time great talent. Especially in a p4p sense.
