Soooooo B-Hop and Triple G are Tied @ 20 Middleweight Defenses...

A Win Over Canelo, on Mexican Independence Day, Puts Golovkin On TOP of One of Boxing's More STORIED Franchises, in Terms of Title Defenses...

Man for Man, Name for Name, Who Had the BETTER Reign Btwn the 2???...

Who Had THE Best Middleweight Reign in History??? Monzon??? Hagler??? Ray Robinson??? B-Hop??? Triple G???...

if golovkin stops alvarez and jacobs in rematches, plus beats charlo and derevyanchekno then Id say he's clearly surpassed hopkins.

It'd Take Until the END of 2020 for Golovkin to Achieve All That...

Whose Resume is Better TODAY, July 2018?...

  5. I guess a DRAW is considered a successful defense but it hurts his record a bit, IMO....especially as that draw came against Canelo who is the linear champion. Hopkins was the linear and then the undisputed champion while amassing 20 defenses. At the moment it’s hopkins....if GGG beats canelo then he has a case.

Not even a question. I never a day in my life considered Golov's reign as comparable to Hopkins' reign

And prime Hopkins would have beaten the Hell outta Borat. So would have Hagler and Monzon.

Hopkins wouldn't have needed a rematch to lay an ass whuppin on that spurt fighting faggot.

Even the Hopkins of the TAYLOR fights beats the breaks off Canelo.

Seems silly to compare an active fighter's reign to a retired guy's. What's the point? That said, both guys record favors quantity over quality. Assuming ggg gets by Canelo (again), he'll have definite work to do to pass up Hopkins.

Both reigns are kinda wank to be honest. Hopkins gets the nod from me though.

He's not gonna fight the necessary opposition to surpass Hopkins.

Pretty hard to do with names like Keith Holmes and Hakar.

What's sad is, Keith Holmes was better than 97% of Golov's opponents.

  13. Hopkins had beaten the best available; Trinidad, Holmes, Joppy, Glen Johnson, Echols, De La Hoya....so it's not like he favoured quantity over quality. Trinidad and De La Hoya were quality fighters, you may say that neither were natural middleweights but nor were Duran, Leonard, Hearns and Mugabi.

Yeah. True. Hopkins managed to clean out the division much more than GGG has so far.

Id say a draw vs alvarez is as good a defense as projectiling ones self outside the ring for a no contest vs robert allen

Hopkins did some questionable shit, but point blank... would you favor Golov over a prime Hopkins?

That'd be a good fight. Hopkins with his sneaky counters - Golovkin with his punishing jab and steady pressure.

  18. I think a Prime GGG is a competitive fight with any of the Middleweight greats. Logically, how could it not be? GGG has shown an excellent chin and excellent stamina thus far, he obviously has good power and a strong jab and at 5'10" he's a solid decent sized Middleweight. He gives them all trouble...monzon, Hopkins, Hagler, Robinson...in fact none of them beat better Middleweights than GGG. I will pick Hopkins in a head to head though because Bernard was clever and cagey and filled with stamina himself as well as having a dependable chin. Hopkins would dictate the pace with his style (not too dissimilar to how he handled Pavlik...although GGG is better than Pavlik was) and his height advantage would tell. I could see GGG beating Robinson at least once since Robinson was more offensive than defensive, surprisingly considering his slick style and it would take a more cagey guy to be guaranteed success over GGG.

Rodrigo Valdez, who Monzon twice defeated, was imo a better middleweight than Golovkin. But Hidalgo has no idea who Valdez is.

Golovkin is way different than Pavlik. Pavlik was slow - hands and feet.

  21. Agreed and I'm not suggesting Hopkins beats Golovkin anywhere near as easily....but I think Hopkins would control the pace similar to how he controlled the pace with Pavlik...a guy that usually threw close to 100 punches in a round.

In time Jacobs may be seen as a better opponent at mw than Trinidad, but even though he was a welter Tito demolished the 2nd or 3rd best mw and was p4p. Canelo isn’t as good or highly rated as Tito and probably won’t be unless he beats GGG.

Really it comes down to Hopkins dominant wins over smaller guys vs GGG’s close wins over prime guys. Neither really did too much relevant work outside of those four fights.

DLH was a weak win since he was moving up, past prime and already lost to Sturm and never did shit at middle. Glencoffe was a bum when Hopkins fought him. If you’re bringing him up you have to bring up Lemoo and Stevens. People try to pretty up his pre-Tito resume but it was pretty weak.
