Kinda with JoM on this one, Smith is horrible. He didn't give Canelo any kind of fight, just covered up, lost every round and took a pasting before being taken out with a body shot. Typical Gallagher fighter, the guy is an awful boxing trainer. Just gets his fighters into good shape and whenever they step up to world level gets them to cover up for the whole fight. Maybe Smith would be decent under a different trainer who knows what he's doing but under Gallagher he's just wank.
Not at all saying that Smith is quality. But Abregu was a next level bum. His claim to fame was exposing that fraud Delorme. And I don't recall him giving Bradley a tough fight. I remember Timmy The Head winning virtually every round. I dont think Ali could have kept Smith off. Ali simply doesn't have the strength and firepower than Clenelo and Munguia have, and his chin is awful. Smith is hardly Nigel Benn as a puncher, but the shots he landed clean on Alvarez and Munguia would have stopped Ali.
JoM might be trying to discredit Munguia, but if he couldn't "wreck" Smith, then a terrible, club level guy like Abregu wouldn't wreck him either. Even Canelo took 7 rounds before he started to wreck Smith. Smith is too big for Abregu anyway. Liam sucks, don't get me wrong... but Liam is probably a level above Jeff Horn. And Abregu was WORSE than Jeff Horn.
In which world is smith better than horn. Horn gave a good fight to pacquiao. Smith got blown away by the only 2 elites guys he faced (and is Munguia even elite??). And at trying to discredit. I never did so. Guy is still young, and has a lot of potential
Abregu was a really good fighter at one point. Certainly not a “club level fighter”. He would’ve smashed Ali in his prime. But he either had injuries or promo trouble, went inactive and turned up shot against Ali. It kind of reminded me of Daniel Santos losing to Yuri Foreman. It’s misleading to give Ali much credit for that win.
Umm... when exactly was this "prime Abregu", Terp? One fight against some Rican fraud in Delorme? Daniel Santos actually had a decent prime run. Completely different circumstances.
Abregu had a nice run as a contender. He was a good fighter in his day with a sharp right hand. No need to throw him under the bus to keep your ‘I hate Ali’ narrative going. Ali was just in the right place at the right time.
He'd beat the Hell outta Horn. Horn is nothing if he can't physically manhandle a guy, and Smith is bigger and stronger. And believe it or not, Smith actually has better technical skills, which says a lot about how pathetically inept Horn is in the skill department.
Smith is not good enough to beat the hell out of a decent guy. Hell hes not even a sure shot over any decent guy. Incredible how some of you are overrating this scrub
Smith Beating horn is possible. Smith Beating the hell out of him is overrating the fuck out of this euro bum
Horn is terrible. One of the worst fighters to ever hold a belt... if not THE WORST to ever hold a belt at welter. Smith isn't good, but he's not the type of guy you watch and say "Jesus Christ this guy is horrible." Horn is that guy. Smith's problem is that he's physically limited.. but he knows how to fight. Horn is physically limited and can't fight a lick.
Munguia was overrated after Ali and now most are being too hard on him. Smith couldn't hurt him so Munguia just did his thing trying to get a knockout. Smith fought not to get stopped. Munguia is at least very good. Hard to say what his top end is, but he's fun to watch and figures to be a tough night for everyone who can't take him out with one punch which might be everyone.
Once again, you let emotions get in the way of a rational analysis. Horn gave a good fight to pacquiao (an old one, but we've seen in his last fight that he wasn't totally shot). That alone take him out of the ''one of the worst titleholder ever'' category
I had Pac winning 9-3. Only the corrupt Aussie judges saw it as close. Horn is a terrible fighter. Smith is an average fighter. Smith wins by virtue of being less sucky, and because he's the bigger man.
Looks like Munguia vs Julian Williams is possible for the Golov-Canelo undercard. Great matchup if it happens! I'm a fan of both guys... I just don't trust J-Rock's chin.
G Has ALL the Leverage in this Instance. Them Believing J-Rock Can BEAT Mungia Is The Only Thing That Should Complicate Matters...If They Think Mungia Can Win, it'd Be a Fairly Easy Fight to Make... REED
what is the incentive for them making the fight? i see no incentive. it is not gonna sell more pay per views and it isnt a mandatory. munguia can fight someone easier for cheaper they would need to believe munguia WILL beat williams, not merely CAN beat him. i dont see any evidence that is the case
Incentive???... Call REED Crazy, but Gaining MORE Experience Against a (Somewhat) Similar Style Mungia (Somewhat) STRUGGLED w/in his Last Fight, is Incentive...Plus, J-Rock is Vulnerable...It's a 70-30 Fight in Mungia's Favor, Maybe Even 75-25... And of Course, Mungia Would Be the Co-Main of What Will Probably Be THE Highest Selling PPV of the Year... REED
J-Rock TESTS Mungia for Sure...REED's Said as Much in this Very Thread... But Ultimately, REED Thinks Mungia's Size, Strength, Youth, Pressure and Power Would Be Tooooo Much...Certainly No "Gimme" Fight Though...Mungia Would Have to BEAT the Fight Out of J-Rock... REED
I'll meet you guys in the middle.... while I disagree with Neil that J-Rock should be the favorite, I also disagree with REED that Munguia is as high 75/25. I give J-Rock a better chance than that. I think it's like 60/40 for Munguia.
