He's almost always the worst part of his movies

A disturbingly inhuman actor always cast as someone intensely human, creating a kind of uncanny valley effect... he's got utterly lifeless eyes... I find him distractingly poor in almost every film

 

That's your opinion...but it's nonsense. Tom Cruise films wouldn't be consistently good if he didn't have something to do with them being good. He's the common denominator.

I'm not overthinking anything... I'm watching the movies and I have always been mystified by the success and popularity of this actor even before it became common knowledge what a genuinely insane person he actually is

 

Tons of women I ask about Cruise say exactly the same thing.
Compared to Pitt, DiCaprio, Pratt, Depp...he just doesn't seem to 'fit-in'.

You could never see Cruise switch with any of the above in one of their big movies and see him coping with it.

 

All top actors are insane. You kinda have to be insane to be an successful actor

 

That said, I found American Made entertaining...

 

He’s not an Oscar winner but what he does, he does well. It’s like David Beckham was never a dribbler on the level of Maradona or Zidane or Ronaldinho....but if you want a guy to cross a ball and put it exactly where you want it every time you ask for Beckham. If you want a guy to be committed to the action and excitement of his roles...you ask for Cruise. If you want a Shakespearean type guy for some deep meaningful plot...go elsewhere.
