Am I the only one who watched the entire first season of this show on HBO? Quality show imo. I'm sure it'll quickly regress, as ALLLLLL shows do nowadays after 1-2 seasons, but I enjoyed Season 1.
Haven't quite finished it, but I'm diggin' it so far. I thought it started out kind of shitty and I was losing my patience in the beginning, but it kicked it into another gear and got better as it went along. Ultimately, for all the stuff happening in the show, not a lot actually happens, but it fools you into buying into this inter-family backstabbing rich fuck corporate intrigue. Guilty pleasure stuff, really.
I just can't stand Macaulay Culkin's little brother. We get it, his only purpose is being a wise-cracking, sarcastic asshole, but it gets played out over a while. Like go away, you little dipshit. You'd have no career if not for your brother. I actually like Kendall Roy. He's the character who really carries the show.
I'm probably in the minority, but I thought both Kieran and Rory were more talented then one-note Macaulay. Rory unfortunately hasn't aged well, and Kieran has that sarcastic asshole shtick that rubs a lot of people the wrong way, but I think he's really good at it.
Been hearing about this show and I’ve been thinking about watching it, but seeing as how it takes me about 2-3 months to get through a season of 1 hour episodes and I still have seasons 2 of Santa Clarita Diet and Atlanta to get to...
Good assessment on the Culkin brothers. Kieran is definitely the most talented of the clan and the one with the longest resume.
Excellent show. Great mix of drama and dark comedy. Almost all the characters in the show are terrible people. I really love the scene when Kendall comes back from the accident and dances to Whitney with his kids. Jeremy Strong is great in this role (acting all around in the show is high quality) and of course, this: First 2 seasons were amazing. I thought the 3rd season started off kind of slow, took me a little while to get into it, but I liked it. Sarah Snook’s got some nice curves too.
Yeah, all performances are great and all the characters are well developed, but Jeremy Strong is definitely the star. Without him, it'd be only a decent show. And yes, Sarah Snook has a thick ass on her. Shiv is a detestable character though. The most dislikeable character on the show. I wasn't a huge fan of Season 3 btw. It didn't hold a candle to the first two. Season 2 was one of the best seasons of any show in history imo.
You mean Billions? Two COMPLETELY different shows; different in plot and in genre. Billions is about a cat and mouse game between a US attorney and a corrupt hedge-fund CEO. Its a good show, but I wouldn't say its anything legendary. Some people feel it is, I suppose. Its also strictly a drama. Succesaion is a drama, but also a black comedy. Its about a stubborn, and twisted old media magnate named Logan Roy who's refusing to cede control of his empire to his four kids, specifically his son, Kendall. I would say its one of the 10 best shows HBO has ever made. Not as good as Sopranos, The Wire, and Boardwalk Empire though.
Yeah I did mean Billions . I don’t know if I ever heard anyone put Boardwalk in the same domain as Sopranos and The Wire. Maybe I should check BWE out. Funny thing is, I also haven’t watched Sopranos or Breaking Bad either.
Yeah, Season 4 is amazing. The series definitely looks to be ending on a high note, because Season 3 was mediocre and dull. Nothing like the brilliance of the first 2 seasons. If it ends strong, Succession might go down as one of HBO's top 5-10 best all time shows. Not as good as The Sopranos, The Wire, and Boardwalk Empire, but maybe 4th best.
I still need to watch Boardwalk Empire. The Wire and The Sopranos are my #1 and #2 favorite shows ever.
Boardwalk Empire was brilliant. It honestly has as good an argument as the GOAT show as the other two imo.
My girlfriend is really into this show, but she's too far into it for me to join in. Will have to wait until she's done.
I just realized that’s why Kendall’s character is so into rap. James Murdoch founded Rawkus Records, who produced that great Soundbombing 2 compilation at the turn of the century.
That balcony scene was some of the best acting in a spousal argument since James Gandolfini & Edie Falco in Whitecaps.
I sometimes watch some YT channel where a psychologist analyzes the characters and narcissism and she says “Shiv is the most narcissistic and toxic sibling, and only Logan is worse overall” I think I dislike Roman the most of the kids though. Ever since he ripped up that million dollar check in front of that little kid. He also really supports that nazi fascist candidate. I also really hated him during Kendall’s birthday.
Definitely, excellent last season. I totally disagree with any comparison with classic series like the Wire, mostly because there was a lot less substance to it, but the script was excellent
