Yeah but which Bojado? The first one who was all offense or the second iteration who worked with Roger Mayweather and became a pretty good defensive fighter? I think the second version would have been skilled enough to outbox Ortiz.
It's crazy to think that on S/O and BoxingFanatics circa 2001, a hot topic was who had the brighter future - Bojado or Cotto. I'm man enough to admit, at the time I was convinced Bojado would be the better fighter... and sadly I wasn't alone.
Bojado did look shit hot early doors to be fair. I didn't get suckered in myself but I can see how people were.
Bojado was like a 16 year old kid that works pitchers and draws walks in baseball... an older, more experienced player's skills ... but the kid has no real developable talents, no potential... he's standing out for doing something other kids don't do ... but he's flattering to deceive... he's not appreciably faster or stronger or bigger than the others... once he's at a level where everybody else does those things, he's nothing, found out Bojado was a bit like that... he did things both offensive and defensive that young boxers don't often do and against cans he looked like a smooth operator... once the opponents got quicker and more technically sound, his lack of outstanding physical talent was quickly found out Ortiz would knock him out in a relatively easy fight
Punch selection and distance, mature fighter's skills... bojado had those in the slow motion lower rungs of the sport
I actually think Bojado was more talented and skilled than Ortiz. I think Bojado’s biggest weakness was punching power and desire. Hell, it’s definitely arguable he had more in ring heart than Ortiz.
You think wrong... Bojado did absolutely nothing, literally nothing in his career... it's like having a mythical matchup with Courtney Burton only Burton is also more accomplished and proven than Bojado Precisely what talent did bojado have that was superior to Ortiz? Ortiz was faster, stronger, clearly more physically gifted... he fought live ranked opponents and even won a fight or two Who did bojado beat that was even a top 25 fighter in a division? The guy was a complete nothing as a pro
I think Bojado was a faster puncher than Ortiz and a better all around boxer than Ortiz as well, especially after he trained under Mayweather. You’re making accomplishments your main argument and that’s understandable, but I’m talking off of just talent. Just because Ortiz had a little more desire (and I do mean little here) than Bojado meant he was able to go farther in his career than Bojado did, but Ortiz has also been exposed as a very limited fighter who got as far as he did mostly through occasionally outlasting guys in brawlfests.
Cdogg is right. Bojado never did shit, and even though he looked impressive in his first couple of fights, it was against complete stiffs. It's not like he was Tony Ayala, who was actually blowing out fringe contenders, and doing so easily. There's nothing to suggest Bojado would have beaten Ortiz.
Ortiz was a far more talented fighter physically and accomplished more (in other words, fought guys with pulses)

He actually WAS blowing out fringe contenders. Until he wasn’t. Why do you think he was so hyped up? You guys can put on blinders, pretend history didn’t happen and base it all on Bojado’s overall career all you want. But just like you said X, at one point he was running neck and neck with Cotto as a prospect. You don’t get that without having extreme talent which he did. And if you asked me to pick Bojado at his best versus Ortiz at his best, I’m taking Bojado.
We'll never know. The kid DID have a certain level of talent, that much was clear. But obviously not as much talent as it appeared when he was blowing out stiffs. If he was 100% dedicated, he probably could have won a belt at 140. But it's probably a pipedream that he would have attained elite status.
Ortiz was better in every physical facet of the sport, clearly more talented If you took them in raw off the street and had to teach them the sport, you'd deduce quickly that the one with far more develop-able physical potential would be Ortiz
Never was imperessed by Bojado. He was alright but his potential and talent are overblwon by a lot of persons
