Tyson Fury v Deontay Wilder

He looked like he was having fun out there.

I’ve said it before, I know. For a guy his size, and build/appearance, Fury is uniquely fleet footed and doesn’t seem to tire. He’s not pretty or elegant in the way he goes about things. But it’s effective and he’s difficult to win rounds against.

I foresee him having a more difficult time with Wilder but provided Fury keeps him on the end of his jab and keeps him turning, I don’t see Wilder winning, barring a hailmary, scorching one punch KO.

Gun to my head, I got Fury via UD over Wilder.

 

I still think Wilder is gonna stop him. But I'm hoping like fuckin Hell I'm tremendously wrong.

Absolutely. He looks awkward and oafish but he clearly has a good boxing brain and skills. Very fast hands and feet for a guy his size, creates nice angles. Like you say, he has a very good engine too. Obviously with Wilder you're never safe until you hear the final bell but he could well bamboozle Deontay in there.

Fury is shit. He keeps his hands too low and his reflexes are too slow for Wilder. Also too feather fisted to keep Wilder honest. Wilder is going to stop him brutally. I’m calling it now.

 

If Wilder destroys Fury, the Wilder/Joshua fight will be even bigger. Although if Fury wins, then Fury/Joshua will do huge numbers. Joshua will probably try to avoid the fight or price himself out.

I actually believe Fury may be all wrong for AJ.

Wilder cooperates and gives his opponents a lot of openings to land power shots. Fury likes to stick, move, and counter. A fighter as stiff and robotic as AJ will have more problems than he wants with Fury.

The only thing Wilder has for AJ to worry about is that fight ending power.

Aye, Fury is shit. Except he's really hard to hit, throws a good volume of accurate shots, is consequently really hard to win rounds against, is relaxed as fuck so can go for 12 and takes a good shot to boot. Apart from all that, totally fucking rotten.

 

I really hope wilder wins tho. Every time I have to see fury with his shirt off or listen to his downy farmer voice, it hurts.

 

This fight can only go two ways: fury by dominating decision or Wilder by shocking violent, come from behind knockout.

 

AJ will beat Fury if he fights him the way he fought Whyte, aggression from the get go. But if he fights Fury the way he fought parker, measured and cautious, fury will win.

 

I actually believe Joshua is more at risk if he takes the fight to Fury.

 

I actually think Hearn and AJ have, by sheer accident and good fortune, played an absolute blinder here (provided AJ gets past Povetkin).

The shit talk and pre-fight bollocks between Wilder and Fury will go through the roof. As hardcore fans we know it's bullshit but that stuff appeals to the casuals. It will raise both fighter's profiles. Wilder is kinda known over here but not massively, if he sparks Fury it puts his profile through the roof. AJ-Wilder would be even bigger than it would have been before. It goes without saying that if Fury wins then AJ-Fury is the biggest all-British fight in the entire history of the sport; two Brits, unbeaten, for literally every single possible belt in boxing's glamour division, good guy-bad guy angle etc. Basically could sell out Wembley 5x over.

Again, provided AJ gets past Povetkin, Hearn has fluked out and got himself a bigger fight than he would have had if he'd cashed out earlier, regardless of who emerges victorious.

 

Maybe povetkin will fail his drug test and AJ won't even have to take the risk.

There's been loads of negativity towards Matchroom for sure, and it definitely irks AJ that like you say, the biggest heavyweight fight of 2018 doesn't involve him.

Hearn 100% did not see Fury-Wilder happening, but again, in the long run I think it actually helps him more than hinders. An AJ match against either fighter was obviously super-lucrative anyway, but the value basically doubles after Wilder-Fury.
