Pre retirement Mayweather I’d go with to nick a close, possibly controversial decision. I’d pick Spence to win a close but deserved decision over the come back Floyd.
Mayweather of the Judah through to Mosley fights beats Spence, 7-5 type deal. Ortiz and Cotto Mayweather vs Spence is a pick’em. Post Cotto, Spence wins 7-5
Spence is very very good and has power and is a great bodypuncher...but we can’t forget how elusive Mayweather was and how effective his check left hook and jab-like lead right hand were against southpaws
But who has Spence fought that´s anywhere near the caliber of even a retired-Mayweather? On-the-slide Lamont Peterson, a busted-up Kell Brook, unknown prospect Carlos Ocampo, kickboxer/punch-bag Chris Algieri... Spence may look great but his opposition isn´t.
I'd pick Spence. PBF never really was impressive at 147 and higher, bar the Canelo fight and against old washed up Mosley
Dazzled De La Hoya at 154 Crushed Fatton at 147 Swept aside in-form Cotto at 154 Bought out the bitch in prime-Canelo at 154 Annihilated Maidana at 147 twice Embarrassed homophobic little PEDacquiao at 147 Spence ain´t done shiiiiiieeeeettt.
Double-dazzled. De la Hoya was reduced to a one-dimensional, arm-hitting plodder with that right-leg trailing behind like it was broken. Clearly a unanimous victory for Mayweather. I´ll let you have the ´annhiliated´. Fact is, he went in with the hardest-hitting welterweight in years and not only worked his style, stance & technique by 1/2-way through fight #1 out but went to prove it in fight #2. Result? 8 rounds to 4 again, but this time, he pissed it.
This matchup is still a bit premature for Spence. However, based on what he's shown so far, there's nothing to suggest that Floyd is a sure bet over him. Floyd was NEVER that impressive at welterweight. I'll repeat, Floyd was NEVER that impressive at welterweight.
It's time this myth was dispelled. Floyd was impressive in the following fights: Judah Baldomir Hatton Mosley Ortiz Cotto Alvarez In most of those fights he made it look easy and sure...fellas here would laugh at the name of "Baldomir" and "Ortiz" but yet would praise Ray Leonard for looking great against Dave Boy Green or Floyd Snr. Hatton was an undefeated top 5 P4P fighter and Floyd beat him to a pulp. Judah had just recently been the undisputed and Linear Welterweight champion and was still in his prime, Mosley's last fight was a destruction of Margarito and Floyd beat him senseless, without even running. Floyd just walked right through him. Ortiz was handled with ease...Cotto was still prime and was handled, same cotto who would stop Maravilla for the middleweight title and a prime Canelo was virtually shut out and Canelo would give GGG all he could handle. By the way people insist that he didn't impress above 140lbs I have to conclude that Floyd is held to a higher standard than every fighter in history.
Define your use of 'NEVER that mpressive when describing Mayweather at 147: slow, sloppy, rusty, hittable, lacklustre, etc
Floyd seemed to avoid big, tall aggressive guys at the higher weights and since he’s a short counterpuncher that doesn’t throw a lot of punches or have much power it’s what you would expect would be a challenge for him. Him avoiding Margarito and getting beat up in sparring by Spence would seem to confirm he was aware of his vulnerability.
He looked like crap against hatton, and was alright but not impressive agasinst cotto and Judah. Baldomir and Ortiz are non-entity
He beat Hatton at his own game. Roughed him up and beat him down. That fight wasn’t close. Hatton was undefeated going into that fight and had stopped both Castillo and Tszyu. Against Cotto he elected to stand in the pocket and trade with him and Cotto was a big puncher. Floyd beat him up. Against Judah Floyd showed how he was able to adjust to a guy who was faster than him and who had a style that nullified his shoulder roll. Down the stretch it was all mayweather. Ortiz was a Young hungry lion (hehe) and Baldomir didn’t win a second of any round and he was the linear and undisputed champion
The more I re-watch Mayweather's fights, the more I appreciate. But then, I'm like that with a few boxers...
