Thankfully the commentators aren't American... I wish all football matches on tv could be commentated on by a Barry Davies type- classic, highly formal, erudite, stuffy, crisp accent... there's something so ridiculous about it... "interesting... ... OH! Very interesting!" ... like when Maradona scored the crazy second goal against England... "OH! Well you have to say that's magnificent..." ... an American would be more like "he might go all the way!!! SCORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRES!!!!"

Agreed. Even if there is an American commentator they are at least (usually) paired with a European which i find helps a lot.

I guess a lot of it just comes to bias. Sometimes it doesn't seem "right" hearing a non-European accent even if they aren't always doing an objectively bad job. I think part of the problem is though in North America broadcasters largely cover a number of different sports instead of being dedicated to one. I suppose it makes more sense for something like the Olympics but not for team sports that are big enough on their own to have full time experts.

    lol yep

I can't imagine an NHL game covered by somebody with an English accent. The guy could know more than 99% of the public but it would still be distracting to listen to.

Basti should have replied that they are concentrating on winning the Stanley Cup first.

Pudding was Peter Sutcliffe's favorite food which is why he was dubbed the "Yorkshire Ripper"

    Likewise.

Sad thing is he'll have absolutely no trouble getting another high paying gig.

I think his style has been found out, it doesn't work anymore against the very best sides ... I'd be very surprised if he ever got a team to the CL final again

Agreed. The game has moved on and his way of playing hasn't evolved at all. He knows it too and he's unable to do anything about it.

I just think he's not hungry enough and too negative as an individual to change.

I hope United get a draw so he stays on/.

Tactical evolution or just the fact he can't the best out his players because he's such a negative creep?

Little bit of both in my opinion... but it is true that he has a squad with players who are too good at attacking and too experienced as stars to accept his dry, overtly negative approach...

I despise the guy. He's a narcissist that can't handle even the slightest criticism although he has no problem outright attacking anybody and everybody to deflect blame from himself.

The referees, linesmen, league schedule, fans, doctors, club owners, the FA, the weather and the team bus driver are responsible when his side loses.

When his side wins it's all down to his individual brilliance.
