PBF always seemed to struggle against swarmers (Maidana, Castillo, Burton, Cotto fought like a swarmer against him and had great success).

How would he do against one of the best swarmer of the 2000's ?

Floyd would win a safety first decision but prime Mayorga would be more competitive than some might think. His physical strength, his awkwardness, his quickness, and his not give a fuck mentality would give Floyd problems.

Barring a Floyd haymaker in the late rounds, Mayorga boxes his way to a safety first decision

Floyd always struggled against swarmers, against taller fighters, against southpaws, against pressure fighters, against big black guys with big asses and black ass biceps etc....yet managed to somehow retire undefeated, having never tasted canvas and never even having a draw.

Floyd would potshot mayorga to death.

If the best available fighters were bums, so be it. Not his fault.

Oh...excuse me, I forgot that the best available fighters were the three he didn’t fight: Cintron, Williams and Margarito. How could I forget? Cintron was stopped by Margarito, Margarito was butchered by Mosley and lost to Cotto, Mayweather dominated Mosley in his very next fight and beat up Cotto. Williams was cold cocked by Maravilla, who was stopped by Cotto who Floyd beat by at least 5 rounds.

Floyd’s welterweight resume isn’t a resume of bums.

Nah, it was always a manufactured controversy by his haters. It’s a fallacy. De La Hoya was always a far more meaningful and formidable opponent for Floyd at the time than Cintron, Williams or Margarito.

If Spinks could make Mayorga look like the skillless bum that he was I have no doubt Floyd could do it even better.

Mayorga would provide some dangerous moments like Maidana did.

But I think Floyd definitely counters more than enough to take a deserved decision in an ugly, dirty fight.

Id pick mayorga. He was a better ww than maidana, and he was strong and wouldnt be intimidated by floyd punches. He would bully pbf to the ropes, and while he wpuldnt land a lot of punches clean, he would do enough to nick a close one

Would you say that Canelo is better than Maidana? Would you say that Canelo is strong and wouldn’t be intimidated by Floyd’s punches? What about corrales? Cotto? Floyd fought Maidana when he was 100 years old

Canelo fight nothing like maidana or mayorga. He's a patient, spurt fighter. Cotto usually doesnT' fight the way he did against PBF. He realised that fighting this way was his best bet of wining, but he wasn't a pure swarmer like Maidana and Mayorga were

Though I predict Floyd would have won that fight, JOM has a point about the styles. Canelo is anything but a pressure fighter.

Mayweather Jr has one of the best mythical resumes in history. He has a plethora of wins at 147 against people he elected not to actually fight.

Oh, the old tired argument that since A beat B and B beat C, A would obviously beat C. Sorry, but boxing is not algebra. Style do matters. If PBF had fought these guys in his prime, he probable would have caught a loss or two.

And PBF did not win by at least 5 rounds against Cotto. It was a close fight, even thought PBF was the clear winner.

Cotton won 3 rounds of that fight, 4 at most and one two definitively. That’s anywhere from 10-2 to 8-4 for Mayweather. So me saying Floyd won by 5 rounds is being generous to Cotto actually.

My point was that Floyd has fought swarmers before and pressure fighters before (Hatton, Chico, Gatti etc) and has won easily. Mayorga is too wild and crazy to stand a chance.

Nah, rather he has the most mythical losses in history. Saying he elected not to fight a guy like cintron or Margarito in order to fight De LaHoya is like saying Lennox Lewis elected not to fight Chris Byrd in order to fight Mike Tyson. It’s the height of foolishness.

Mayweather by unimpressive decision in an awful, awkward fight where the ref is constantly needed
